Know which programs you can and can't record?
I just got my third notice of Copyright Infringement for recording The Blacklist TV show. The last one was Castle, also a TV show and Tranformers which I think is a movie. How is one supposed to know which shows you can record on Uverse and which ones you can't? Also, does it make a difference if one records HD vs non-HD? Is it that the copyright infringement folks are just getting more active or something else? Any advisement is helpful, we record a lot of shows around here because we're often busy when our favorite shows are on e.g. the news. A list of copyrighted shows might be helpful for AT&T to provide customers or do you have any useful ideas on how to solve this? I don't want to be locked out from recording at all.

Super frustrated, I'm on my final notice for copyright infrigment (which is the fifth one, if anyone was wondering) and I have done nothing wrong. I'm super careful with things like that because the last thing I want to do is get in trouble for something as silly as downloading a song and yet here I am. I'm currently waiting for my personal review from the AAA and honestly while I hope that they side with me (since I in fact have done nothing wrong) I'm fully expecting for them to tell me it does fall on me.
I don't even know half the songs they say I'm downloading and there's only another person besides me who uses my internet (as far as I'm aware of) and I know she had nothing to do it, she's as responsible as I am (I did check her devices, just in case). I changed my password and hoped that if someone was hacking my internet it would kick them out, I'm guessing either I'm wrong about the hacking or the changing of the password didn't help.
I want to say it's a coincidence but as soon I got m U-verse modem/wifi device installed this whole thing started, I'm not sure if that's because the new device is more sensitive to stuff like that (I'm not computer savvy, can you guys tell?) or what but I can't help but think it may have something to do with it.
I'm planning to call ATT about it but honestly I don't know how much help they'll be, I mean what are my options here? Change the modem and hope it works? The notices say that if this keeps happening ATT will just cut my service, so should I just cut to the chase and move to a different company? I feel like I'm out of options. The last thing I want to do is go to court for being accused of downloading songs.
Does anyone have a similar experice?

Are you trying to record during a program's regularly scheduled time or from the On Demand offering?

I, too, am curious about this. How are you doing this recording? How does this copyright message appear?

Demand. Do you know if there is a list of programs one can and can't record?
Thanks for your reply Skeeterintexas!

Skeeter - Thanks for mentioning on-demand. The few times I could have used OD, what I would want to watch was not available. So, I never think about it.
Well, almost never. I did think it did not need to be reorded because it is "always" there. But individual shows are not always there.
If some can be recorded & some not, it seems resonable me to have the attempt to record be the trigger to say no-no. No need to label everything as recorded or not. I more object to offering shows that I cannot view due to subscription level.
Since I never tied to record an on-demand I have never seen a recording denial for copyright reasons & was thinking the OP was trying to record to an external recorder. On-demand is probably more likely.

Please, PLEASE, please, explain when this message pops up and what it looks like. A photo of your screen would be lovely!

If you're subscribed to a channel, you should be able to record it onto your DVR. I believe it is physically impossible to record "on demand" onto your DVR, such as you'll get an error message if you try.
It is my understanding that it is possible, but tricky, to get stuff OFF the DVR and on to something more permanent, such as a DVD or other external hard drive. AT&T doesn't give support for this, so you're basically "on your own" as the saying goes. It is also my understanding that TiVo doesn't work with AT&T. I'm not that technical, so that's basically what I've heard. I just have my regular U-Verse DVR and nothing else for recording.
Obviously, whatever you record is for your own personal home viewing only, but I'm sure you already know this.
And you're absolutely sure the copyright letter mentions The Blacklist? And you're not recording or possibly distributing other shows?

Recording is not available during On Demand so it can't be that.

I'm as corn-fused as everyone else. I have heard of these notices being delivered by snail mail, only when someone tried to download / stream a movie, illegally via a torrent or P2P. Would like to see this notice!

Are you trying to record the shows with the U-Verse DVR or something attached to a set top box (for example, a DVD recorder or a Tivo)?
Also, how are you getting these Copyright infringement notices? Via mail? On-screen? Can you show us a copy?

That's exactly what I've been thinking, which is why I've asked the OP twice to explain/screen shot the message.

Doing some research on my end, That message does not exist in our system.
There has to be some device in between the receiver and the TV (or the TV itself). Nothing in the client would put up a message like this but some other device could be intercepting the HDCP. The closest thing the client would put up is a system notification with technical details of why HDCP failed. This does not appear to be a U-Verse DVR issue.
