Lights on box at night light up the room
Only the green "link" light is on most of the time. HOWEVER, it never fails, the box lights up my room like a dance club in the middle of the night with the HD and record buttons eventhough no TV is on. Blue light - awesome - known to interrupt sleep patterns. Is there a way to remove the bulb, stop it or fix it, or I just have to get the electrical tape because of poor product design?

No excuse for poor UX and product design. That's called lazy development and deployment. I'll call ya at 4:00 am when I go for for my run. Meet ya at the gym after to lift before work at 7:00. Yes, sleep is important when you do other things than troll and *NOT* contribute to a legitimate resolution. So the real answer is you don't know anything here.

What answer did you expect? No, you can't deface the boxes by opening them up and modifying it.
People complained about this a long time ago. There was a fix pushed out by AT&T many years ago. Everyone who complained was happy with electrical tape, as you hinted at wanting to use.

So the answer, instead of snarky responses, is "there is no real solution" and "AT&T has not done anything to resolve in x years." Took a while to get here. Thanks.

I sleep about 10 feet in front of my STB. Admittedly, NOT the DVR so maybe I'm just blowing smoke here, but I don't have an issue with the lights and I'm a super light sleeper.
Side note: The blue "HD" should NOT be on if your box is turned off. Is the OVAL light to the right on too? If so, your box is not turning off. The ONLY light that should be on is the "Link" light.

Get an infrared extender an put the box behind the tv or behind whatever the box is on now.
