NBA Blackouts
I live in Greenville, SC and receive the Sun Sports Florida channel. I just set up U-Verse and moved from Direct TV. I told the sales person upon set up that I did not want the service if I could not get the NBA Miami Heat on the Sun Sports channel. Currently each game is blocked out but that is consistent with Direct TV since the games are shown on another network.
What I would like to know is...what happens when there is no other broadcast of the game and it only being shown on Sun Sports Florida? Is the game blacked out in South Carolina? As I said, I watched the games on Sun Sports on Direct TV all season.

The sale person was incorrect. Per NBA rules, the only way to view out of market games is to purchase NBA League Pass which AT&T currently does not offer. Without NBA League Pass, the games are blacked out outside of a team's territory on the out of market RSN's.

Since the NBA Playoffs are in progress, it's probably a moot issue at this point. You can watch the playoff games on ABC, ESPN, TNT and NBA.TV. You might want to stick around and see if U-verse picks up NBA League Pass next season. Of course, NBA League Pass is also available over the internet. There are number of devices that can be used to stream the content to your TV.
Here is a link to the Miami Heats schedule: http://www.nba.com/heat/schedule/

My guess would be that South Carolina is not in the Miami Heat's territory, thus the games would be blacked out on the out of market RSN's in South Carolina.
When you had DirecTV, did you also subscribe to NBA League Pass so that you would watch out of market games?

Yes. But as I understand it, ATT does not have the NBA package available. The sales person who sold me the service checked and was pretty sure the games would not be blacked out. I am willing to pay for the games but I need the option. Otherwise it is back to Direct TV.

I appreciate your honesty. I wish I had this forum BEFORE I agreed to have U-Verse installed. Believe me I asked the question many times and even got a supervisor involved. My exact words were, "I do not want this if I can not watch the Miami Heat". What do I do now?

Thanks...sounds like good advice. I could purchase on the internet, I guess.
