Press OK button to watch tv or turn off tv

Hit remote power button to turn on TV.  Turns on, but get msg to hit the OK button to watch TV.  OK button on remote does not fix it -- have to go to box and hit OK button.  Occasionally, in the middle of a program, the 'hit OK button to watch tv' will pop up.  This also happens sometimes when hitting the remote control power button to turn the tv off.

This happens with two different remotes and TV sets.  One is the wireless receiver; the other is a secondary set.  The TV on the primary box and remote has never had this problem.

Why is this happening?  How to fix?

@lgz816- The OK screen is what is displayed when the receiver(aka STB) is "off".

Of course, you cannot see it when the TV is OFF. But, you can see the green light on the circle on the STB - green light indicates STB is ON, even though TV may be OFF.

The remote is designed to allow both the STB & TV to turn ON/OFF together. If they get out of synch(one on & the other off) the OK allows you to turn on the STB without turning off the TV. This is because the on/off switches are a toggle - reversing whatever it is - Not doing a specific on/off. The OK is a specific ON.

Do you have a new s-20 or 30 remote? That does not have the mode buttons at the Top that are present on the s-10 series. If so you may not have programmed the power sequence - http://www.att.com/esupport/u-verse/remotes/

If you have an s-10 make sure the att & TV buttons both blink when you hit the power button. Make sure you aimm the remote the full time to turn on/off both STB & TV. It is important to turn off the STB. If you do not turn it off, what you think is an ON, is an OFF.

Those are the things that may affect out of synch. The out of the blue change may be because the two TVS may be able to see each other. If the IR from remote 1 reaches STB 2 it will turn it off. & vice-versa. Or, maybe you have a practial joker doing it.

THANK YOU! Will definitely take a look at this.
All remotes show S10-S4 on the reverse side of the remote.
On the TV's giving us a problem--on the uverse box, one constantly has the 'power' light "on", but the other one does not.
Will check on things you have brought up, and will respond. Kind of swamped with things a little more important than TV, but will do asap. Thanks, again!

One thing I would like to add.  As @aviewer stated, the STB and TV should be synced.

If you move the remote too quickly, it doesn't have time to control both the STB & the TV.  Just hold the remote still for an additional second or two so after it powers one on/off it has time to turn the other on/off.

I'm guilty of being in a hurry, hitting the power button and moving the remote too quickly and "Press OK" shows up.  Then I have to stop and sync them up again.

@lgz816 - RE: On the TV's giving us a problem--on the uverse box, one constantly has the 'power' light "on"

The power button being lit says it is generating IR - power IR. If that IR is seen by your STB or TV it will respond.

Try taking the batteries out & hitting it against something like a folded up newspaper. Try to get the button to stay out. You could even soak the end in water. It is already defective. Call for a new remote. If they want to charge come back here.

Problem is solved, I think, thanks to this site!

I believe it was that the box/remote/tv were out of sync. Had to press AT&T button on remote and power bottom on remote at same time several times to turn on and to turn off, but they finally synched up. Occasionally, they get "confused" again; and I just re-sync. On a few occasions, had to push power button on the actual 'box' rather than on the remote control, and then resynched everything.
