Question pertaining to grounding of the Gateway Modem, and DVR
I live in an older home, and some of the outlets still have the old two prong receptacles.
The surge protector (which has the Gateway Modem, DVR and television) are attached to such an outlet, with a three prong adaptor. Could this be the reason why I've experienced a loss of the U-Verse tv signal (along with the outage of the Internet, and dial tone), several times? If I replace that outlet with a new three pronged grounded wire, directly to the breaker box, will the intermittent loss of my U-Verse signal cease?
Whenever I lose the signal, I press the reset button on the gateway/modem for a few seconds, and then unplug the plug to the modem for a few seconds. Within a short time, all of the green lights on the gateway start flashing, and the tv signal (along with the Internet and dial tone) return in a few minutes. I don't know what else may be causing this problem? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks very much!

I guess we could say that it could be the problem. It should be easy to test. Can you use a long extension cord to a grounded outlet.
Surge protectors are good, but could be the source of the problem. Try it without the surge protector. I think there are posts recommending a tripplet surge protector.

Do you have the little ground prong on the 3 prong adaptor attached to the screw on the outlet cover?
If so it's generally grounded as it screws into the box which should be grounded, even though there is only a 2 prong outlet (before 3 prong outlet required by code).
I'm currently using one for my TV/DVR on the surge protector they are plugged into and have no problems w/it. 😉
