Recording in HD
If I record up to 3 programs at once and still want to watch something "live", how come I can't watch the "live" program in HD?

Depends on your profile and where you are trying to watch it from. If your trying to record 3 shows and watch a 4th from the DVR you can't. You can however watch a 4th HD program from a STB. You can check under system info in the menu to see if you have the 0/4 profile.

STB=Set top box a.k.a. U-verse receiver. If you go to menu>system options>system info>system resources what do you see on the top line? 0/4? 1/3?

Hang tight and one of the community managers can check your line profile to see if you can be upgraded to 0/4.

Good afternoon, alicefu
Apologizes for the delayed response. My name is Morgan, I'm one of the Community Managers and I'll be glad to check if we can upgrade for your profile as beebeesa described. Please keep in mind that we provision each household with the maximum amount of network bandwidth based on the capacity of the network and the distance from the home to the serving terminal in your neighborhood. I will be sending you a private message that will land in your inbox to further assist you. Thank you!

Thank you for patiently waiting alicefu
I was able to run some measurements to see if we could upgrade you to the highest HD stream count. Unfortunately due to the distance from your home to the VRAD being too great and the available bandwidth we have to send that far, the highest profile available is the 3 HD//1 SD profile.
For a little more technical information let me breakdown the distance limitations. I measured your "Maximum Attainable Bit Rate". Basically, this is the highest amount of data going to your home. Your Downstream Max attainable bit rate is at 29,721kb/s and in order to sustain the 4HD//0SD profile, it would have to be well over 32,000kb/s.
I apologize that we are currently unable to offer the highest profile, however there are a couple alternatives to conserve the HD streams when you want to record 3 shows at once.
When 2 TV's are watching the same channel, they are only taking up 1 stream, if you changed the channel on one of those boxes then you would be taking 2 streams. Also, when the DVR is recording a show (as you know) it takes up 1 stream as well. Also, watching recorded content on the DVR receiver does not count as a stream because it is retrieving that data from the DVR's hard drive instead of the VRAD.

Thanx, Morgan. Understand but not happy. Don't think this problem exists
with sattelite tv.
