RF remote does not work well on set top box in closet
Please help! Just got Uverse service yesterday, and I'm already disappointed. I have the Point Anywhere RF remote control, because my set top box is in a a closet. The cables run from my TV through the attic and down into the closet, so I'm not able to move the equipment somewhere else. When right in front of the TV, the remote works ok to turn the TV off/on, and adjust volume, but not anything else. I have trouble pulling up the guide, FF or rewinding, or anything else. I had Xfinity, and emitters attached to my cable box, and the Xfinity remote worked great for everything. The ATT RF remote, not so much. I shouldn't have to get up and walk across the room to change channels, or do anything else! I'm thinking about not keeping my service because of this problem. I would appreciate any good feedback.
You will want to get this: AT&T U-verse TV Point Anywhere RF Remote Control - Equipment at AT&T. The IR is the standard remote that comes with the Uverse service. To control a set top box or DVR that is in a cabinet or closet, etc. the RF remote is designed for this purpose.

@jejohnson The RF remote goes thru batteries quickly and you might not have gotten the best batteries w/the unit. I'd suggest you get some fresh alkaline batteries and try it then. 😉

The RF point anywhere remote has many opportunities for failure.
Is the dongle connected to the front USB so that the IR sensor sees the IR generated?
The batteries must be at peak voltage. The slightest drop in voltage wreaks havoc.
The RF signal is too weak to penetrate the wall.
The IR signal is either too strong or too weak.
If your STB is not a 2250 DVR the response will be slow.
I have posted a lot of bandaids for the RF/IR problems over the years. I recently discovered major surgery - The Logitech Harmony Smart control - Read about it in the following thread. Do not be daunted by complexity. You can set it up simple or add features little buy little. Post if you have any questions.

Hi Chris,
I just put new batteries in the remote, and this doesn't help either. Any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Have you tried moving the usb transmitter where it swivels. Before my remote broke and I lost the use of it, mine didn't work well until I swiveled it straight out. When I had it sitting at a 90 degree angle, I had constant problems with it.
