Something strange with my AT&T Uverse
When watching my cable channel news station that and a number of stations suddenly were not available and asked to call a toll-free number. When I called it I spoke to someone who said it would cost a one-time $1.99 fee to turn it back on. Gave a cc# and instantly the stations were back. Afterwords I got to thinking "how strange" and that doesn't sound like this was an AT&T thing I called AT&T who confirmed that was a fraud attempt. Well I cancelled the credit card and the channels are working still. Now the big question is, can the system be hacked to suspend the channels you watch, display a fraudulent phone # and once the fee is paid turn it back on?!!!
Right now I would have to research the ph# that I called and since the card was cancelled there is not a transaction to follow I don't instantly have any other validating information, but still am curious about this incident.
Thanks,
