U-verse app compatibility for Roku

Is the uverse app compatible with a Roku Device? I am disappointed with the rather skimpy and haphazard content offering of the standard Uverse TV On Demand selection accessed via the Channel Guide button. I want to access the same channels and networks my subcription allow thru the uverse app to access the full library of streaming content not available thru the OD menu. I am not a subscriber to Amazon Prime which provides access to uverse app. Paying the $100/yr premium for Amazon prime tv is equivalent to a subscription for content that I have already payed for through my Uverse subscription.  I have a Roku Device on one of my TVs, however I don't see the Uverse app available on the Roku app store. Is the Uverse App compatible with Roku devices? If so, how do I download the app to the device?

I am disappointed AT&T doesn't provide A Uverse app for Roku. The native OD offering is skimpy at best, and haphazard in terms of completeness, especially for serials. Episodes are posted out of order, come and go randomly and generally don't lend themselves to catching up if one misses an episode. If I have to buy a subscription to Amazon Prime, I am in effect paying twice for content that are already offered as part of my Uverse subscription.  The only way to access to the full library of back episodes is thru streaming apps. Why do you provide it to Prime, and not to Roku? When do you plan to make the Uverse app available to Roku? Or alternatively do a more complete job of fully populating your OD content.

The only cable apps on Roku is Comcast and Charter.  The Uverse app is only on Fire TV you will need a fire tv box.

Hello @RBCLAR

Your information is not quite correct .  Do not need to be a Prime member to use Amazon Fire TV.

Can grab a Fire Stick for $20 on a good day which will run the Uverse app, but bear in mind it's still Uverse, minus local programming content, so whatever on demand deficiencies exist will still be there.  But most broadcaster apps are available to use with your subscription. May be able to do this on Roku as well, and hopefully yours has an 80211ac connection .  I hate my express because streaming on it is very unreliable on a 2.4GHz connection.

Remember Uverse and broadcast television is  only 720p at best, so a cheaper device will be fine.  However if you want to get into watching higher quality steaming UHD and HDR, a newer Fire Stick 4K is a better choice .

When I ordered UVersetv & internet, I was told by an authorized dealer & AT&T online chat at the corporate level that I could access UVerse via my Roku.  The installer today told me Roku was not compatible with UVersetv & only the recorded shows on the UVersetv DVR could be seen on the Amazon Fire TV...no live TV.  When I asked about the installation details at the local store & online chat, neither could give me any information & the installer would have to tell me.  After a long conversation with the installer today, I sent him on his way without any installation.  I'm about to head over to the Corporate AT&T store now to cancel my service & keep Spectrum.  There was no price difference to change, but I was hoping for a stronger signal.  I can put up with Spectrum without going to all of the trouble of UVerse.  Very disappointed!

Hello.

Uverse TV never had an app that worked through Roku AFAIK.  What you can do with a Roku is use your package subscription to activate apps for individual channels.  And let me say using the authentication procedure is very tedious and must be repeated periodically.  The technology exists to make this a better experience but clearly no incentive on the part of cable companies to enable.

I am partial to Amazon's user interface.  Although there is a Uverse app for AFTV, I still tend to use the broadcaster's app because they offer more on demand content. Also of note is the limitation one cannot use the Uverse app to watch local channels, and also true for all connected devices such as smartphones and tablets.  This may now be less of an issue for the Amazon ecosystem because of the their new Recast box which allows handling of OTA signal being distributed to their streaming devices as well as providing a DVR function.

And while Uverse TV hardware from a technology perspective is antiquated by 2018 standards, the subscription package is decent.  When comparing to Comcast, I generally prefer ATTs lineup.  Picture quality has always been a positive too.

Cheers

Even without the U-verse APP on Roku TV, you CAN connect your U-verse set top box directly to your Roku TV. My U-verse works great with both of my Roku TVs - using an HDMI cable to connect each TV to a set top box.

The only trouble I had was that, at first, I had coax everywhere - and as soon as I installed the first Roku TV, my U-verse picture became impossible to watch due to major hanging and freezing. My U-verse installer (who was there to install AT&T Fiber) fixed everything by eliminating all of the coax cable. He said the smart TV's send some kind of signal back thru the coax line, causing interference. So he put Ethernet coming into the house and from the gateway to the main DVR box, and replaced the other wired receivers with wireless ones. He used HDMI cable to connect each TV to its set top box. Now everything is working great: my U-verse picture looks great on the smart TVs (even on SD channels, which I use for the DVR recordings to save space) - and looks great on the non-smart TV, too.

I am unable to even download the premium channels that I have thru att uverse even with authentication I get an error that says I am not subscribed to those channels. Do not get att uverse if you watch TV on anything other than your television set. Cancelling but going to have to pay for cancelling
