Uverse blacked out stations

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to U450 and sports package (special now being offered for 3 months) and knows if you will get access to Dodger games?  I was online chatting with AT&T and they said sure no problem.  But I see that it is owned by Time warner.... is there a special station to view these?  I know it is preseason right now, hard to determine.

Take a look at this: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401258&cv=813

It all depends where your at as to what is blacked out and it's determined by the national networks and agreements between them and the league.

Blackouts are determined by a combination of the team, league and channel. If you live outside a team's local market, as determined by that team, league and channel, the only way to see that team's games is to get the various package sold by that league. If you don't subscribe to FS West, FS Prime Ticket as part of your LOCAL package, games will probably be blacked out.

If you have to pay the HD Premium Tier in order to see Prime Ticket, you will NOT see Dodgers games. AT&T is 100% not to blame here. This is the exact same situation on DirecTV, Dish Network and any other provider that offers non-regional channels.

If you could pay AT&T $7/mo for the HD Premium Tier and get Dodgers games outside of southern California without blackouts, you'd probably also get NHL Center Ice, NBA League Pass and MLB Extra Innings.

If you want to see Dodgers games and you live outside of the Dodgers home area, I'd suggest a device such as Roku, AppleTV, or even a laptop with a Chromecast or HDMI cable. Some TV packages like MLB Extra Innings sold through a TV provider do allow for online viewing. The packages sold via the league websites are mobile from the get-go...no worries about missing games while you're on vacation.

So yeah...like I said above, if you need to subscribe to the premium tier, the Dodger games will be blacked out. The premium tier is generally good for pregame shows, postgame shows, coaches' shows, NFL RedZone (no blackouts on that channel, as it "jumps" between all live games on Sunday afternoons...must be off the air at 8 PM ET per league rules), and also good for the non-sports channels.

I'm in Los Angeles and Time Warner Sportsnet LA (the name of the Dodgers channel) is not currently available on Uverse.  In fact, it is not available to anyone that doesn't subscribe to Time Warner or a couple of small cable systems (Brighthouse, Champion).  Time Warner has yet to sign a contract to provide the channel to any of the major players, so Dodger games are only viewable to about 30% of LA residents.  Negotiations are not currently occurring because of the proposed merger between Time Warner and Comcast.  This means that this coming season may not be available to any other service providers.  Further complicating things for Uverse is their proposed merger with DirecTV.  Both of these corporate mergers aren't scheduled to have government decisions until well into March.  Once these mergers are decided then negotiations can be renewed.

As mentioned previously, even if Uverse does obtain the rights to the broadcasts they would only be available to those within the Dodgers broadcast footprint which would be mostly Southern California.

Dear baseballisback (ACE - Guru) :  Thanks so much for the details.  For a regular consumer unaware of all the background research involved in solving these sports politics.  I do pay for the premium tier, and now an upgrade.  I was not typically blaming AT&T, I just didn't appreciate a sales pitch that promised "viewing access" to Dodger games when it is not true.  So shame on that.  I will definitely be cancelling the U450 upgrade.  I guess my next solution is to use my google chromecast and purchase MLB.com access.  Thank you again for your insight and knowledge from one Baseball fan to another.  🙂

When I signed up fpr Uverse I was told RT NEWS would be part of my 450 lineup. Why isn't available?? WHy the number two most watched channel in the internet is not on Uverse?

Who told you that?  Never has been mentioned before that I've seen here, except your other post.

Is it #2 'watched' by Americans, kinda doubt it, as I've never heard of it before today. 😉

Then what is channel 1777? I see Time Warner Cable SportsNet HD on that location, 1777.

Considering Wikipedia calls it a "RT is a Russian state-funded cable and satellite television channel directed to audiences outside of the Russian Federation," I think we have our answer.

Maybe it's #2 amongst Russian-American audiences?

This from Wikipedia:

RT has been called a propaganda outlet for the Russian government[9][10][11][12] and its foreign policy,[9][10][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] by former Russian officials,[20][21][22] and by news reporters,[23] including former RT reporters.[24][25][26] It has also been accused of spreading disinformation.[20][27][28][29][30] The United Kingdom media regulator Ofcom has threatened RT with sanctions because of repeated violations of its rules on impartiality.[31] The network states that RT offers a Russian perspective on global events.[32]

This is why I posted who want's to hear Putin's view on the 'news' in his other post about wanting RT News. Smiley LOL

Channel 1777 is the Los Angeles Lakers (and Los Angeles Galaxy for MLS soccer) channel.  No Dodgers on this channel.  Time Warner created a different, separate channel for them.
