Watching TV and recording at the same time.

We just got u-verse today, we were recording a movie and a tv show at the same time. When I wanted to change the channel, I had to stop one of the recodings. We have two boxes that are hooked up and 2 boxes that are wireless. Can we only record one channel at a time and still be able to watch live tv?

You have 4 LIVE streams that you can watch and/or record at one time.

How many boxes you have is irrelevant.  We have a DVR and 2 wireless boxes but get the 4 live streams.  You can have up to 8 boxes but you still get a max of 4 live streams.

Verify that you get the maximum number of streams, go to Menu>Options>System Options>System Information>System Resources.  Top line will show streams.  It should show 0SD/4HD

Have to make sure all currently unused STBs (not just the TV off) must be turned off, otherwise they use 1 of the 4 streams (channels) available to watch/record at all times.

Just matters what your SD/HD availability is, many have 0/4 as reported above, some have 1/3 and unluckily some only have 2/2.  All this is related to how far the user is from the VRAD.

I'm 400' from the VRAD and have always had the highest # of HD channels available, started in 2008 w/2/2, two HD available just became available then (previous 3/1).  In a couple years got 1/3 then not that long after that got 0/4 and have had that since. Smiley Very Happy

Thanks to you both! It says

3sd/1h
What exactly does that mean? I'm getting a little lost in translation with that.

Thanks!

Yikes!  1HD/3SD means that you can only watch or record one HD program at a time.  The other three streams would then all have to be SD.

I'm wondering what your connection profile is.

That's a 19M profile and thought they were not doing anymore of those, originally done w/the iNid.  Those were for users at the end of the line for TV.  They've replaced many of the iNids w/other pair bonded RGs that give them a slightly higher profile.

I'd like to see the stats/error table from the RG to see if maybe you should get more HD channels.

On 2wire/Pace/Arris RGs 3800, 3801, 5031, 5268 go here:

http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_1_0

On Moto/Arris RGs 510, 589, 599 go here:

http://192.168.1.254

Stats/error table will be on the Broadband tab.

In either case, can just copy there and paste in to a reply window here.  B4 posting, erase any personal info.  If something belongs there, just put deleted there. 😉
