Why are the CAPTIONS displayed smack across everyone's face?
Why are the CAPTIONS displayed smack across everyone's face on the screen??? I need the captions to HEAR better but I still want to SEE the show. When the text is displayed across everyone's eyeballs it's very disruptive. And I want ONE BUTTON on my remote to turn captions on/off; from a user perspective it is unnecessary to go through the menu settings everytime. Take a stand and do something about improving CAPTIONS!!!

@JoannaG Unluckily, placement is what it is, but they should be at the bottom in my opinion.
The red C button will toggle captions on/off.
Might want to complain to ATT Uverse Care. Click the ATT Uverse Care link in my signature below, send the PM, explain your caption situation.
Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.
Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck 😉

The CC text is on the bottom third of the screen. I don't understand the problem. *shrugs*

Actually when I first replied, I checked the CC on the channel I was on and it was in the 'face' position the OP complained about. Now checked here on recording of Sprint Cup qualifying and it's at the bottom. Looks like some are not in the bottom 1/3 of the screen.

You're right...some closer to the bottom, some closer to the top. I wonder if it's a network decision or just random.

That is not the case on every show/channel. Also, the captions move during the credits at the beginning and end of shows. And when there are tweets and ads across the bottom, it's a mess!

Thank you for your help! We tried the A, B, and C buttons once upon a time and I they didn't seem to do anything. But I just tried the C button and it worked! This will help me greatly as I frequently turn the captions on/off depending on how well I can follow or who else is watching it with me.
I'll try the link you shared. My guess is that AT&T can't control the placement of captions (either they are not allowed to based on FCC rules or don't want to interfere due to logistical complexities or legal concerns). But I would like to see a big company take up the cause. Fortunately I can hear but others are completely deaf.
BTW - For those who don't use captions, you should give it a try sometime. They are handy if you just don't want the TV too loud or it's noisy around you. And at times there is extra info like the title and artist of the background music or even the lyrics; and spelling for names, technical terms, and foreign language.

Actually I don't like them, especially on live programming, they're 1-2 seconds behind on what is being stated live. Best of all at 63 I still have great hearing.

I think the CC screen position may be controlled by a combination of the network broadcasting the programming and/or their CC service contractor, both of which would be out of AT&T Uverse's hands. It would be nice if Uverse monitored this Forum, however, and would respond to our issues.
I hope my opinions are helpful.
