Why can't I cancel before the end of my billing cycle?

All I want to do right now is cancel my service. They won't even do that for me. I have been a loyal customer since 1996. I called to have my service canceled and they won't cancel until the end of my billing cycle. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Absolutely provide no value to loyal customers.

I currently have a wireless DSL internet setup in my home right now. What additional equipment will I need to purchase to connect to an HD DVR?
