Any details re: May 2015 U-verse DVR firmware update

Hello,

Today my U-verse DVR had a software update. I've noticed that there are now new background photos on certain menu screens, as well as use of a new font, but I'm not sure what else has changed.

Does anyone have any detailed information regarding all the details of this software update?

Thanks.

Only the changes you mentioned have been reported...background & font.

It probably only contains a number of bug fixes, but that would be behind the scenes.

And the screen saver. Is there a way to turn that off? They're nice pictures and all but at night it's like shining a flashlight in the room. They're way too bright.

Yep.  Press the Power or 0/1 button on the TV.  That'll fix it right up.

I don't appreciate your smart aleck answer. There ought to be a way to
change or dim the screen saver.

Sorry, there is no way to change or dim the screen saver.

We're talking about the picture the STB generates when it's supposed to be OFF for goodness sakes.  Your AT&T provided remote is intended to be progammed to turn off the TV when it turns off the STB (and vice versa), so you shouldn't even be seeing this screen.  And you're worried about how bright it is?

Make your TV's back lights last longer and save power.  Just turn it off.

Well not always, when I have the candles lit in a dark room for watching movies, I put the movie on Pause and step out to the kitchen to make some snacks, when I get back the whole room looks like there’s a floodlight on.

You could hit pause on the U-verse remote, then the press the TV button and then power.  That will turn off the TV but leave the Uverse box on.  Make your snacks come back and push the power button to turn the TV on then push the AT&T button, then hit > twice and you should be back in business.

Who doesn't like mountains, beaches and streams for goodness sake!

I find the new screensaver(s) quite enjoyable.  And it would appear that they rotate the scenes on some regular basis.  I paused the TV, walked thru the room and it was beaches and when I came back it was a mountain stream.  It's like a mini-vacation.

You are right, they are very pretty and nice to look at. But as a consumer I would like to be able to change the brightness of them or even just blank the screen. Thank you all for your comments.

Been reading this thread with mixed feelings. It does seem like there should be some user control. But, I think that picture control at that level is not part of the STB functionality. There are  many things that are part of the STB functionality that could improve, that have been requested many times to be improved, without any response.

The detailed control of the picture is a function of the TV. But, it is not practical to change the individual TV settings when changing from viewing to screen saver.

Always looking for a work around - If you do have screen saver on a lot & really, really want to tone it down - The TV solution is multiple picture settups - Most TVs have at least three picture settings (e.g normal, bright, movie). Pick one for normal viewing & another for the screen saver & set it as dark as you like. Then you can switch settings as needed.

With a Logitech Harmony remote you could even change picture modes with one button press.

Not automatic, but an efficient way to change picture as needed.

I am not able to create a series recording anymore, the old method was to push record twice rapidly and it would display a series recording options screen.  This is gone and no help information on if there is a new way to do this

Series record has alway been an option on the program info page.  I didn't even know about the record twice option.

Thank you for your response. I hope that AT&T looks through this (and other) communities and considers some of the comments for future requests. I appreciate your detailed and helpful response.
