Any details re: May 2015 U-verse DVR firmware update

Hello,

Today my U-verse DVR had a software update. I've noticed that there are now new background photos on certain menu screens, as well as use of a new font, but I'm not sure what else has changed.

Does anyone have any detailed information regarding all the details of this software update?

Thanks.

I wish I would have seen this thread before posting the other one.  Has anybody else noticed the new screen saver has fixed position time and Uverse elements.  That basically renders the screen saver useless, and I'm concerned that my plasma is going to end up with a burned in image.  If this is indeed the case, nice work on taking a functional screensaver and making it basically useless.

Yeah, and we REALLY needed the AT&T logo on the scrub bar when fast forwarding.

And the proportional font in the time display makes the fast forward arrows jiggle like they've had one too many...

I have the same problem with the aspect ratio not being automatic anymore.

My update was a week ago and I just did a hard reset and it still doesn't work.

Somehow my Toshiba monitor would ignore the Theaterwide2 setting I have for SD channels and HD channels would be Native.

I wonder if http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Format_Description could be the issue.

Maybe AFD was sent by the STB and it no longer is.

What happens now is SD and HD channels are both increased in size.

Danjackson2015, is your auto aspect ratio still working for you?

Most of the content on Uverses SD channels is in 16:9 but in a 4:3 box. Channels like CSPAN are alway 16:9 so why can't uverse just make them HD? It is not a bandwidth problem TO my house because that is limited to 3 HD channels no matter which channels are being watched or recorded. Even if the source is 480 making it full 16:9 would be better.

And here is a tip for seeking tech help from Uverse. Ask if they are in the Philippines.

They are very nice and polite but they can only help with very basic issues. Get another phone number from the account people.

DVR has its own volume control. The update reset it to maximum value of 25. The DVR volume is controled by the remote when new but the remote contols the TV volume after programing. You may need to reprogram your remote to reduce the DVR volume.

Yea evry sice that update and reset that took place this last Saturday - Sunday everything has been fine aspec ratio is back to normal on both my 55 inch Toshiba and my 42 inch plasma now. Big volume jump when I go to the HD channels but no big deal I just turn the volume down.

The firmware added the ability to toggle Closed Captions off, one click!  That was one feature request that we received all of the time.

Pressing the red "C" key does this.  Yay!

Yesterday I noticed Tips on the screensaver, last night only Press OK, with no tips.

Yay! is right about the closed captions.

How did you ever figure it out?

I'm mystified why any company would do a software upgrade that includes long-requested features and then do their level best to make sure no one ever knows about it.

I'm mystified why any company dealing with content delivery would design a screensaver that has fixed elements in it (big no no even with modern displays).  As a plasma owner, I'm paranoid about such stuff having a child in the house that often forgets to durn the display off.  No problem before this update, the blue screen rotated background and text regularly and somewhat dynamically.  Now it's a problem with no apparent effective place to report it.

Everytime I see a system update requiring a device restart, I hope to have this issue resolved only to see more wallpapers for the screensaver that doesnt work.  Awesome.

The background(s) rotate through 15 different scenes and the text moves around too.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Maybe there is something messed up with my box then. The 'Click Any Key'
rotates properly, and the scenes are cycling properly but both the time and
the ATT Uverse text are in fixed positions independent of either the moving
click any key box or the background. Anybody else having this issue? I
would love to have this solved by getting a new box instead of having it be
a systemic problem.

I just turned the TV on and watched through three changes of the background picture, quite a few more re-locations of the Press OK for TV message, but other than the minutes digit changing, the Time and "AT&T Uverse" didn't seem to move.  Either it was very subtle and slow, or it didn't happen.  I'm going for didn't happen.

I've got to believe that those were a last minute idea that got thrown in without thinking.

That is a shame. Sounds like basic stupidity vs. a technical glitch.

Since the update the Arris VIP2250 now shuts itself down about 20 minutes after my video processor is turned off.  Can't record on the DVR when the other elements of my system are off.  Never used to be the case.  I called AT&T and they sent out a new DVR (same model) and it operates as the other.  Is there some setting I don't know about to keep this from happening?

I should note that when the DVR is turned back on, it has to go through a complete reboot.  Never used to happen that way.
