This is a win win for AT&T/AT&T U-verse, and its subscirbers. We will get more progrmaing and it's also good for DriectTV customers as well, because they will probably be able to have a TV/Internet bundle and maybe we will even see higher internet speeds with U-Verse now and more bandwidth.
Plus, every article except for 1 I read is saying that DriectTV is probably going to revamp their contract with NFL Sunday Ticket. A lot of articles I read were saying that it could also come to U-verse as well. When not if but when (I think) this deal comes together. Which will help DirectTV, the NFL. and U-verse by gaining more subscirbers.
I don't know why people will get mad over Sunday Ticket coming to U-Verse. If you don't want it then don't subscibe to it. I don't know whats the big deal and I think it's a huge deal to U-Verse. They wouldn't put that clause in if it wasn't a big deal.
Also to those people spreading the rumors that U-Verse will be gone when this deal comes together. That is not going to happen, don't fall for that, it's other companies trying to scare you. What might eventually happen is that the two companies will be using U-Verse ttechnology. That's not going to be for a very long time though.
Look at Comcast right now they are moving almost all of Michigan and othe states subscirbers to Charter. Charter is worse than Comcast. I will hate to be a Comcast subscirber right now because they are getting screwed over by Comcast.
Sportsman, you put forward good arguments for the fact U-Verse will not be going away, if ever. Combining Directv and Uverse programming will be good for most people.
I have looked at the programming that is offered by U-verse and Directv. Most of the packages are close to being the same. Of course there are some things differences, but most are the same.
Since people have been asking for Hallmark, they can get it.
As for bundling, most customer's in the AT&T area can bundle Directv / Internet / Phone together to get a lifetime $5 discount on their Directv bill. They also get the short term promos, but the one that most of my customers like is the lifetime $5 discount.
So when everything is said and done in a year lets come back to this thread to see what came true and what did not.

Let's not jump to conclusions. As of now, Hallmark is not available on U-Verse, nor do we know when it will become available. After the merger goes through, it may make Hallmark available on U-Verse, but we don't know this. A merger may make switching to DirecTV easier, but once again, we don't know this.
Any merger will take a long time to finalize, even after it has been approved... This, we basically *do* know, based on past mergers of large companies.
(I can just see OPW's reading this statement and then freaking out when they allegedly sign up with U-Verse and it's not there.)

You are correct, baseballisback. What I should have said was if it is decided to keep both of services, U-verse & Directv, as separate services, the Hallmark people can get their channel back.
But at this point it is a wait and see. I think I will look forward to when everything is completed to see what we hoped or wished to happen, does happen.

It seems to me that if U-Verse and DirectTV are kept as separate services, then those having U-Verse would still not have Hallmark until a contract was signed with the U-Verse part of the mega company.
In turn, those having the DirectTV part of the mega company would still be able to have Hallmark since DirectTV already has it.
The third possibiltiy in my equation is that since AT&T would own both companies, and if there is not an agreement in place between Crown Media and AT&T at the time of the merger, those having DirectTV could lose Hallmark.

So what you're saying is that either things will remain as they are with Direct keeping Hallmark and Uverse not getting it OR both Direct and Uverse will get Hallmark OR neither Direct or Uverse will get it.
*rubs chin* Makes perfect sense to me.

AT&T will not force U-verse TV customers to take DirecTV service, if the telco’s $67 billion deal for the satcaster goes through, CFO John Stephens said.
“Customers will have their choice,” said Stephens, speaking at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference. “They can stay on U-verse. This transaction is not based on freeing up wired capacity.”
......
Down the road, he said, the combined AT&T-DirecTV will be able to offer the NFL — and other programmers — an opportunity to provide something no other company can to distribute content across TV and multiple wireless devices.

Skeeter: I should have said the "second possiblity" instead of "third possiblity" I did not give the alternative of both DirectTv and U-Verse having Hallmark.
The first possiblity would be U-Verse still not having Hallmark while DirectTV would still do so. The second possiblity would be neither one having Hallmark since U-verse would be owning both entities, and there is no contract at this time between Crown Media and AT&T.
I am sorry about the confusion.

I'm not sure if this is new info for those following this "Community Forum"......
AT&T Will Retain U-verse TV,
Won’t Force Customers to Switch to DirecTV
