AT&T/Sunbeam-WSVN dispute

Just found out this morning that the dispute over Sunbeam/WSVN-Channel 7 is South Florida wanting to jack up their fees has come to full effect. There's no programming on WSVN today only a screen telling us to check out AT&T's side of the story. But I agree with AT&T on this

I'm tired of these networks/channels jacking up their rates and expecting the consumer and/or the carriers to pay for it. This is a broadcast station that we're talking about.

The only thing is I'm going to miss the NFL playoffs today and most of all, THE SIMPSONS (D'OH). Why can't AT&T carry Channel 29/West Palm Beach instead?

There are thousands and thousands of AT&T owners.  Few of them are billionaires.

AT&T is a publicly traded company and as such is "owned" by its stockholders.  Perhaps you are referring to the CEO.

WSVN (Fox) is going to continue to withhold it's programming from AT&T. It knows that the NFC coverage was important and that's where the leverage was. This could have been resolved easily and NFC coverage would not have been blocked, but if course WSVN won't agree to turning on its signal for one day without a permanent agreement in place. This standoff needs to come to an end, but won't until one side caves in. I've reported this to the FCC, but who knows if they really care to address the issue. The FCC is the one that won't allow another Fox affiliate to replace WSVN. Calling Sunbeam and asking to speak to someone to register a complaint only results in a recorded message to contact AT&T.

I can find nothing that says that Randal L. Stephenson's net worth is a billion dollars.  His current compensation package wouldn't get him there for over 40 years.

So, I contacted the FCC regarding this issue. Here's their response:

Your Ticket No. XXXXXX was served on AT&T Wireline on Jan 27 for its review and response.

AT&T Wireline will likely contact you in an effort to resolve your issue.

A response is due to the FCC no later than 30 days from today. AT&T Wireline will respond to you directly by postal mail.

What is AT&T Wireline? The response from the FCC to me reads like "we aren't going to get involved in this, and have referred the issue to AT&T." AT&T is maybe going to contact me and tell me what I already know.... WSVN is not available because of a retransmission fee dispute and we are working with the station owner to get the issue resolved ASAP.

Total B S response but, seriously, did you expect anything else?  I do admire your tenacity.

This is between AT&T and Sunbeam.  The only reason the FCC would get involved is if there were something illegal going on or some sort of 'questionable' dealings.

I just realized what I should have done is select 'other' for the cable provider and specified Sunbeam. I've done that now, and will see if the response is any different. Somehow, I doubt that it will be any different.

We all know that none of the alternatives that were mentioned worked as it relates to being able to hopefully watch the playoff games. Since we have been paying for a "free" signal, how about AT&T thinking outside of the box and offer a discount or credit to its customers for their having to go to friend's homes to watch a local signal on a Sunday evening for the playoffs. Not to mention hte only local TV station in Miami that keeps our local news going while all others go to political national news? Al R.

Nascar racing starts Feb. 13 on fox. I am under contract with att until June. If dispute is not settled by Feb 5 I will be forced to cancel my att service due to breech of contract and get Xfinity service installed.      David [edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.]

Be aware that if you are under any sort of contract with ATT, there will be an ETF (Early Termination Fee).

If they cave in and pay ALL the other channels will want much more money too. They are not fools and guess who pays in the end? You do because the bill just keep going up! Do you yell at them? No, you just yell at at&t about your high bill! Well this is where it starts. Go AT&T!

Pay the money? That's YOUR money not at&t's. Why do you think cable is becoming so expensive? The operators will see them cave in and then they want more too! Your bill will be high and at&t won't get an extra dime, but that's who you will blame.

PS at&t did offer to pay for the playoff game saturday and WSVN refused. All or nothing was their response.

Channel 4,6, and 10 are good with local news too. Channel 10 may be even better than 7. If you're complaining about 4,6, and 10 switching to National news at 6:30 PM, it's a welcome change of pace, IMO. Channel 7 news was awful when Sally Fitz and Rick Sanchez were there,  it's better now, but not by that much.
