DirecTV cancelling Newsmax

I am a 12 year subscriber to DirecTV & have had AT&T cell service for 15 years. I am EXTREMELY disappointed that DirecTV is cancelling Newsmax—the last (Edited per community guidelines) news channel. If this is not resolved with Newsmax being restored I will be cancelling my subscriptions.

Canceling, forever. Why would anyone wish to support blatent censorship of the truth, by a company that truly has no respect for everything that has made this country great.

Here is a statement from AT&T:

On multiple occasions, we made it clear to Newsmax that we wanted to continue to offer the network, but ultimately Newsmax’s demands for rate increases would have led to significantly higher costs that we would have to pass on to our broad customer base.

Anyone, including our customers, can watch the network for free via NewsmaxTV.com, YouTube.com and on multiple streaming platforms like Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google Play.

We continually evaluate the most relevant programming to provide our customers and expect to fill this available channel with new content.

And, you will pay what I tell you to pay for it.

Disgusting.

Unless this has anything to do with anything other than Newsmax, this thread will be closed.

We recently became aware that DIRECTV, by direction of AT&T, deplatformed NEWSMAX as a news source. To us, this is a direct violation of our 1st amendment rights of freedom of speech. NEWSMAX is an alternative voice with some previous millions of viewers before being deplatformed. NEWSMAX is the 4th highest-rated cable news channel in the US and 16th highest-rated channel overall for daytime viewers. All of this translates into "good business revenue" for both DIRECTV and AT&T, so why would they be removed as a cable source other than censorship?

This is very disturbing to us!

Being customers of AT&T for many years, we demand that you end this censorship! If not, there are other service providers that we will look to meet our needs in place of AT&T.

Direct TV needs to work with Newsmax to find a solution for the premium for the channel. I watch Newsmax daily and I am extremely disappointed that Direct TV has dropped them. Bring it back!!!!! I want to be able to choose which free press station I want to watch, fox, Newsmax, CNN whichever I choose!

DirecTV forums are below. In the meantime, watch for free via their website.

Hi. How can you write to the people who deal with taking channels off? I've never done this before. But I'm very upset about what they've done to Newsmax. That's SO not right! Shutting down (Edited per community guidelines) tv, especially with the lame excuse of cutting costs, and then keep all those other stations that get a lot less viewership. We know what they're doing and they can't be allowed to get away with it. People should be able to watch what they want to watch! Censorship is illegal. I'll never get anything doing with at&t again, and I'll be telling anyone I know and meet that they shouldn't get it. They should definitely have hearings about this. Outrageous!

If by "upper management" you mean corporate, that snail mail address is readily available via a Google search.

It's not censorship. You can watch for free via their app or website.

NewsMax was asking for money period.

They were previously asking for $0.00/mo.

Why should AT&T have to pay when NewsMax is giving their product away for free?

The same people who own CNN also own TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and other channels.

All of them are in high demand.

You are bad. After the Nashville attack in Tennessee on Christmas Day 2 years ago that you housed an NSA facility where the server on stolen elect was we though you we honest. This action is a bad move by what looks like a (Edited per community guidelines) maneuver.

My 11 brothers and sisters, friends and other family members unless you keep Newsmax on Direct TV which we don't watch much we all will cancel service. It is about having access and you should lose all first responders' contracts. My deep very deep connections will make sure you act correct or lose customers.

Whoever reads this you have bad actors running the business. The NSA will get involved.

Give us all the access so we can be informed.

Why are you deleting Newsmax? It’s doing better than CNN and msnbc!!! I’m considering moving to another company for my prepaid phone service and tv!!! It appears that you have something against (Edited per community guidelines) tv!!! Is Fox News next?

I am a subscriber to Uverse &  AT&T cell service for decades. I am EXTREMELY disappointed that Uverse has cancelled  Newsmax—and previously cancelled OAN.  As soon as I secure new replacement services I will be cancelling all internet, phone and TV services that support anti free speech government sponsored pressure to limit news narratives  and want to only focus people to news  geared to drive the people of the United States into limited belief systems just like they did in all of the communist countries and it is very sad to see that big companies like this who are now following through with pressures to follow suit. It is clear this is politically motivated, the American people are not stupid no matter how many times to repeat and repeat and repeat carefully worded and coded messages across platforms, the people know it. I am deeply saddened. Just  know that the one thing in life you can't take away from anyone is integrity and your company has lost that and all respect from millions and millions of viewers whether they let you know or are part of the silent majority sitting quietly shaking their heads in disbelief.

You can watch NewsMax for free via their app/website.

Why should you pay if it's free via a legal method?

Really?  Well, that's great, you know, my kids don't even subscribe to any service and have been telling me this too, it's now time.  Buh-bye paid service. I can't stand most of the programming these days anyway.

Please get the contracts squared-away for the reinstatement of these networks. They bring value to the U-verse lineup and make me want to keep my U-verse service. Thank you. P

Last year it was OAN now this year it's NewsMax, yet you continue with all the FAKE NEWS stations!  I should have followed my gut and left Direct TV last year when you did that. If I ever get out of this mess with returning a new iPhone 14 Pro and get it taken off my account I will be moving to Verizon, if I am not locked into a contract with Direct TV I will be moving to Dish ASAP, and I will be selling my ATT stock. I no longer want any part of a company that puts politics before what the customer wants and needs. Just as Bed Bath and Beyond shot themselves in the foot by no longer carrying My Pillow and now they are going bankrupt, guess this will happen to ATT also!  I will not support any company that doesn't support Freedom of Speech!

I am asking for a bill credit since ATT Uverse had cancelled Newsmax and One America News broadcasts.  When will I get the credit?

Should I cancel service and get Dish Network???

Long time customer of both Directv and AT&T. I have already canceled Directv service for other reasons, but would again, still be canceling Directv service for canceling Newsmax. The promotion of Woke ideology and unfair opposition to (Edited per community guidelines) thought is bad enough, but the double standard and strong support that both AT&T and Directv provide to (Edited per community guidelines) programming and to other, less viewership channels is a violation of free speech and poor business practice. If this isn't quickly resolved to include Newsmax programming at a fair and equitable fee, I will be canceling my AT&T service as well.
