Directv Streaming service question
Is the NHK Japan channel available on Directv Streaming? I have AT&T Uverse and they want to put in fiber, but I either have to have an ethernet cable run from my kitchen thru the attic to the Uverse receiver in the living room, if I want to keep Uverse, or switch to Directv Streaming - I'm just not seeing a few channels I watch. So it was frustrating recently when ATT sends me an email saying we can switch to fiber for free, the guy comes out, spends a good half-hour getting fiber to my house, then comes in and at that point he outlines options (there was a sales guy who showed up a bit before outlining the benefits of Directv Streaming), the phone people who set up the fiber appointment need to be trained to discuss this Uverse issue when they set up the appointment instead of wasting everyone's time.

You'll want to post your query about channel availability in the DIRECTV STREAM FORUM

Ah... you must have a 5268AC, or some other Gateway that has a coax connector and they want to install a BGW320, which doesn't have one.
I had to run the Ethernet cable myself when I got a BGW 210 to replace my NVG589.
Maybe there are alternatives; perhaps you could shift around your receivers and make the Living Room TV a wireless receiver and run Ethernet to some other place and put the DVR there?

@paulwark @JefferMC
why not insist to keep existing gateway or be given a 5268ac?
FWIW, I'd personally look to convert from coax to Ethernet whether keeping Uverse TV or not.

Current fiber installation standards call for direct fiber to the BGW320. The 5268AC is not capable of the direct fiber. Tech may not have a XGS-PON-capable ONT in the truck to use with the 5268AC. I got an ONT only because my tech did have them and no BGW320s.
I agree that converting from HPNA over coax to Ethernet over twisted pair is the way to go. Another alternative is an Ethernet to HPNA adapter.

The question is whether att will help the OP keep their existing U-verse TV installation. There should be a way to get a standalone ONT installation for such cases besides playing truck roulette.

Thanks everyone, great input! Thanks Skeeterintexas, I will ask my NHK Q over there. JefferMC, good idea, I could move the DVS to the incoming router/modem area in the kitchen and get another wireless receiver (at $10/month, but it might be worth it to stay with Uverse and have a short ethernet) for the living room TV. The Tech had no problem with running an ethernet through the attic (I forgot to ask if it would cost me $$) for us to keep Uverse, but on the whole there was a definite push to go Directv Streaming, which I am open to if all our channels available. Thanks again everyone!

You see, I'm thinking of switching to an iPhone in order to be able to cast DVR recordings from my phone to my TV, which is WiFi-capable. I presume that will work with DTVS, yes? And, as I understand it, AirPlay is NOT a separate device; it is incorporated, standard, into the iPhone. I've been told also, by my provider, T-Mobile, that the cheapest iPhone model is the SE from 2020.
Do I have all of that right? If I understand you correctly, I will be able to open the DTVS app on my iPhone, pull up a DVR recording, and cast it to my TV, a Vizio, utilizing the iPhone's AirPlay function. Does that all sound correct and plausible?

AT&T has spun off AT&T TV / DIRECTV to a separate DIRECTV company. Please ask your question about what you can do with that service on their forums here:
