download movies for playback later

does Uverse offer an app or method on the iPad to download movies/shows while connected tothe internet so that you can play them back later when you are NOT connected?  Comcast / Xfinity offered the Xfinity Player that allowed you to do this and watch them later without being connected.

You can download the U-verse App and it allows you to download shows to your phone or tablet for viewing later.

thanks beebeesa but I have that APP and there is not a way to download content such that it can be viewed later when you are NOT connected to wi-fi/cellular networks.

when I had Comcast/Xfinity, there was a separate APP that specifically downloaded content for later viewing off-line.

Hi dominicc,

With our current contracts with the broadcasters that allow us to play their content, they do not give us access to have their content downloaded, so unfortunately, there is no way to view the content offline.

Why is it that Comcast can have customers be able to download movies to a iPad or computer for viewing later and AT&Ts customers can't do that? As big as AT&T is I would think they could get that feature for its customers! This is sad!

As large as AT&T is you would think I could download a movie to my computer to view at a later time offline.

I used to download movies to my cell phone over Wi-Fi for offline viewing using the AT&T U-verse software for Andriod.  I haven't do so lately because I haven't had the need, but as far as I know, that still works.

Downloading movies to a computer makes the studio executives' skin crawl, even when encryption and DRM are present. It is difficult (and expensive) to negotiate the rights for that;  too many DRM systems have been defeated.

It is interesting that you can download movies to playback on DirectTV and cannot on U-verse.  We just switched from DirectTV back to U-Verse.  I was hoping that the U-Verse App would offer the same features as was advertised on the website, but I was very disappointed that I could not watch  my recorded shows or download movies to playback later.

Amazon video allows you to download some movies and shows to your Kindle but not everything. The call it on-tap video. The whole business of downloading is very iffy. I assume that is the case with other cable providers.
