Indianapolis Marion County U-Verse Severe Weather Alerts not Working?
I am not home all of the time and do not always have a TV on but it has been a looooong time since I have received a weather alert via the U-Verse EBS system. I do recall seeing the weekly tests but no severe weather alerts.
Yesterday, Marion County (Indianapolis) had an EF1 tornado hit on the city's West side. The tornado sirens sounded and I received a CMAS (?) text message but nothing through the U-Verse. Although the warning was issued for the entire county, there was a localized "polygon" warning that further defined the warned area over Southeast Hendricks County, and much of Western and Northern Marion County. I live in Eastern Marion County.
1. Did anyone in Marion County (Indy) have an actual U-Verse EBS Weather alert for the June 24th storm?
2. Does the U-Verse system weed out warnings based upon the smaller polygon areas?
My guess is that it is not #2 as it has been a long time since I have seen a severe weather warning and I know that we have had Severe Weather (Tornado watches and Severe T-storm warnings). The bad deal about the 6/24 storm was that we were under no watches and there was a 0 threat of severe weather (as defined by the NWS). I get the weekly tests, however.

We had sort of the same situation here in San Antonio, TX a few weeks ago. Sun was shining, hot/humid, and all of the sudden my cell got a EAS alert for our area (Far West Side) saying we were under a tornado warning, not a watch but a warning!! Then a few seconds later I received a text from ADT, my security company, warning of the same thing. We had the TV going as it was about 6:30pm, and not a peep from U-verse.
It was one cell that had developed rotation but luckly never made it to our area and took a turn further west. Never lost sunshine. I jumped on the NWS site and tracked it. Was really weird.
If I wouldn't have gotten the alerts on my cell I wouldn't have even known since we were watching recorded shows and not a local station that would have a bottom crawl or a program interruption.

Soooo, not just Indianapolis, it seems. Sounds like a major disconnect, somewhere.
The freaky deal is, just like your storm, there was not really a risk of severe weather - so it could have been bad. The sun was out on my side of town. AND one of the TV meteorologists said that this upcoming weekend's scattered storms could feature some low end rotation.
Here is a picture from "The Brickyard." The storm was just NW off turn four. BUT I think that the tornado itself lifted by this point but that slightly rotating wall cloud looks menacing.

Clouds like that make me want to run!! We have no basements here so we are pretty much sitting ducks if we were to get a tornado. I've lived here 45 years and can only recall 1 tornado and that hit the former Kelly AFB and took off some of the hanger roofs. I think that was back in the late '80's. I ended up with debris in my yard and I'm over 5 miles away as the crow flies. The tornado came along with a hurricane that blew in from the gulf of mexico.

Yeah SATX doesn't get a lot of tornadoes nor a lot of snow but y'all get more than your fair sure of heat and (as my Aunt and Uncle found out in the 80's), can get lots of rain.
I will send a PM to a manager to ask about the missing alerts.

I'm hoping El Nino brings lot of rain this year as our lake levels are all below 70%. We've had about 3 1/2" where I live north of Dallas, but it's only raised the lake level by my house by about 2".
Growing up in Oklahoma in tornado alley, I used to chase them when I was young and stupid.

I'm all for El Nino after this winter. Storm after storm. Indy is usually warm and wet. It was near 60, during Superbowl Week, here in Indy, in 2011.
I'd love to chase storms but this past year showed the risks.
