Longhorn Network - Just say 'No'
I greatly appreciate the value provided by AT&T in bundling tv/wireless/internet services. Similarly, the bundling of channels allows customers to access a variety of programming at substantial savings.
However, occasionally, programming comes along that is so expensive and directed at such a narrow, niche market that it deserves to be left off of the programming options or ordered solely as an 'a la carte' option. If the reports about the price tag to cable providers to offer the 'longhorn network' (by ESPN) are accurate, the only way it could be added to current bundled programming packages is at substantial cost to MANY people who have no interest in the programming.
Please AT&T, keep prices low, by either not offering or charging ONLY those who desire this programming option.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't. Unless outrage is expected every time a provider adds a new channel to your TV package because there will always be those who don't want and have no interest in the new channel.
I understand the real reason as opposed to the stated reasons for the comments opposing the Longhorn Network. It has nothing to do with programming choices or the addition of an unwanted channel possibly increasing the cost of your TV package. U-verse additions of wanted and unwanted channels happen on a regular basis.
I would take the reasons stated in some of these posts seriously if these same posters have been posting in opposition to each new channel addition to their TV package that requires a carriage fee. The payment of the carriage fees will lead to increased package costs.
So, just be honest and state the real reason for the opposition of this particular channel.

NO to the longhorn channel!
and I'll be honest, as a graduate of another university in this great state, I do not want my hard earned money going to help one particular university of which mine competes with. if someone wants a specific university's channel and would like to contribute to the channel, that is fine by me but it should not be added as a packaged deal. leave it as a single channel premium add on or not at all. if the demand is out there for this single university's channel, then the demand will pay extra for such channel. it should not be forced upon those of us who do not want to support said university. I would not expect someone who did not graduate from my university or follow my university's sports teams to be forced to pay for my channel and do not expect to cover costs for persons who would like to view another university's channel.

Wow, you people seriously crack me up. I bleed Crimson and Cream but I welcome the Longhorn Network. ALL new channels are welcome in my opinion. BYU now has their own channel and the Pac-12 is getting ready to start a national network similar to the Big 10 and 6 regional networks. Oklahoma is already looking at doing a Sooner Network as well as other Universities.

WOW!! People, UV is not going to increase your bill by .40 cents!!! This is an arrangement with ESPN, they own the channel. I've never seen such an irrational response to a new channel! UV adds channels every quarter. What about all those new HD channels added last year? Where is the "outrage" were you charged 40 CENTS at that time? Good point about BYU, where is the outrage??? LOL relax, hide it if you don't want to see it in your listings, lest your heads explode! Google shows one service, FiOS having signed an agreement so far thus the comment about 4 providers having it, was an exaggeration, or an emotional response. What is this, the Longhorn HALLMARK channel????

You as a moderator on this board should worry quite a bit less about why someone does not want it and be sharing with Att people do not want it.
People do not want it because at the end of the day it will linenthe UT athletic department with 300 million dollars if successful.
People do not want because they do not like Texas.
People do not want because they don't want LHN showing high school sports.
And for the record, canceled twc because they did not have NFL, rest assured I will take my over 500$ a month Att services elsewhere if this channel is snuck to basic services. And if the LHN reaps .40$ per customer in profit.

I've been called many things, but this is a new one! I never realized until now that I am a moderator and have direct contact and influence with AT&T!
Thank you for stating your honest hatred instead of the smoke screen about being concerned with the rising costs of TV service. Envy, jealous, and outright hatred are human emotions. We all have to find a way to deal with them.

Can I be a Mod, too, TG37?
I hope when I see I HATE TEXAS that applies to the Longhorns and not to the State! Texans take offense to such words...

LOL. I will assume that he meant UT and not the entire state, but you never know. Emotion can lead to some irrational statements.
Spd, fill out an application and attach your resume. I will review it, and see if I want to setup an interview with you.

I would suggest that emotion is also behind every Longhorn subscriber that threatens to switch if AT&T doesn't add the Longhorn Network. That is why ESPN is trying to charge 40 cents per month for a channel with 1 (maybe 2) football games involving Texas playing a weak opponent, telecasts of sports UT fans largely don't follow, and a whole bunch of filler. If AT&T added it, the reality is that the typical Longhorn fan might tune in for the football games (and probably just one of the two at best because Rice is not appointment television).
I'm a Cowboys fan, and I really would not be interested in indirectly paying for the Eagles Network, either if it had a third tier game, like the Eagles versus the Carolina Panthers or something. If your point is sports is different, yes, it is different, and that's also why ESPN is trying to overcharge for a bad channel with limited content. And I'm pretty sure some provider won't give in to the extortion, and since this is America, I'm free to give them my money.

That's our motto, and we MEAN it!
I saw a sidebar ad today that Rice (Houston) will be playing UT on 9/3 and to sign up for the channel now!

If you were a regular visitor of this forum, you would see that the history of this forum is full of messages from people who have threaten to change to another provider if a certain channel is not added or added back. We have seen it with Tennis Channel, MLB Network, NBA TV, CBS College Sports, Hallmark Channel, etc. There is nothing new about that, and it is to be expected.
Threatening to change to another provider if a certain channel is added is a new and different twist! 🙂

Yeah. At this point the only major provider who has announced carriage of the Longhorn Network is Verizon FIOS as of September 1st. There are also some small cable companies near Houston and in east Texas that have also announced carriage. There may be a lot of UT fans who will be unable to see the game unless something changes next week.
I assume Verizon FIOS is being overwhelmed with cancellation notices since they announced carriage last week. 😉
