Loss of channels
AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future! I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

It is the only answer we can give as it is the truth. Nextstar has the broadcasting rights to choose who they want to rebroadcast their programs nobody else.

This is from 4 Jul, Nexstar said it was "reiterating its offer of an unconditional extension of the existing distribution agreement for 30 days to restore the blacked-out programming to viewers and allow the parties to reach a new agreement." AT&T refused...Nexstar is not putting us in the middle, AT&T is putting us aside for profits.

AT&T (DirecTv) doesn't give a [word filter avoidance] about the customer. I've been without CBS and NBC for a couple months now with no end in site because AT&T is money hungry and think they are bigger than anyone. That is exactly the reason I dropped AT&T as my home phone and cell phone provider also, they just don't care. DirecTv is the next AT&T service to be dropped.

Nexstar had agreed to provide service/restore blacked out stations while sides negotiate, but AT&T refused according to a 3 July article. This "Ace" toes the corporate line on EVERY response, according to them AT&T is a victim of the monster Nexstar, same as we plebes!

If you have read the dozens of other threads in these forum son this topic you will find, yes, contracts are the problem, but not between att users and att (nothing in your contract says they need to carry abc) but the contract with the local station or owner of that station to allow att to re-transmit that channel. Att needs a contract for that. But if the station thinks they can use their channel as hostage to extort exorbitant fees and think att is going to pay for it (which ends up being us), well, considering the length of time this is going on now, they got another thing coming. It's good that this time around att is standing their ground.
You don't connect a over the air tv antenna to the dvr. You connect to the RF antenna (coax) port on the back of your tv. Then you switch the tv's input to the antenna.
You should look at tvfool.com and enter your location info to see what stations are possible with your antenna, where to point it for best results, and an estimate of how big an antenna you need.
Once you have your antenna read your tv's user manual on how to "scan" for channels, i.e., how to "teach" your tv what channel numbers stations are on.
Does that station have a website that streams it's programming? If so try that.

And you believe them? What incentive would AT&T have to withhold the channel while negotiations continue? It's NexStart that killed their feed. Do your research and learn the facts.

And you believe that??? What incentive would AT&T have for withholding a channel during negotiations? NexStar pulled the plug, not AT&T. Greedy station owners are killing the pay TV industry, driving more and more customers to streaming services. Why should pay TV providers have to pay anything for FREE off-air channels?

The Columbus Dispatch ran this article today detailing the outage as "toxic TV". Probably no new info here, but at least it's a viewpoint from an impartial source.

When AT&T absorbed DirecTV I'm sure Nexstar was kicking their lips, now dealing with an almost 200 billion dollar organization. Everyone wants their dollar's worth. Yes I do believe that article, and the strike by AT&T employees in the southeast tells me AT&T thinks they can bully anyone into submission. It will be to their own failure if they fail to provide local channels. They've got to be competitive with the streaming services...right now the ONLY thing they have is the NFL Sunday ticket. I believe they will lose that, and with it the bulk of their customers.

It seems that now that AT&T has gotten so big they can just push people around and charge what ever they want to its not right to the customer at all

ATT, you need to get things together. As big golf fan, haven’t been able to watch The Open or the Playoffs because NBC is not being shown with our package due to negotiations. Seems like your customers should be getting a credit on their bills because we are paying for a TV package that does not include all the channels you said it would. My patience is running thin and will be shopping new providers in the near future.
Not satisfied...

How to watch ACCN and local CBS channel 17 on AT&T U-verse? Is there any option for U-verse customers to watch these channels? Is there a wat just to cancel my TV contract since AT&T is not providing the content I want to watch?

As we go into football season and miss golf tournament after golf tournament we are reminded why we will never use AT&T again after we are out of this contract. In addition, we were promised gift cards for signing up and never received those. They cancelled our install because their system said there was service here, even though the previous occupants remedied the problem, and we confirmed the appointment was rebooked (and had an email proving so). It took about 7 hours on the phone to get someone to finally call the local contractors who do the install to get us a reasonable time. Then, even though they did not tell us so we could make an educated decision to choose a cable network who has NBC and CBS, they have been in a fight over pricing for those networks pretty much since we began service. I find it difficult to believe that AT&T can find a resolution and based on their actions with pretty much every customer they have in our area I find it impossible to believe they could be in the right in any dispute. We are a military family so we move all over the country and warn younger military families that if they get AT&T for phone their coverage in many places will be spotty. Time after time people come back to us and say they should have listened, then they switch to Verizon. I don't know how long AT&T plans on staying in this dispute over these channels but the customer service rep told me that "Nexstar" could provide the channels but they aren't doing it. What??? Like Nexstar is the older brother just holding the channels out of reach? AT&T is terrible, plain and simple. Never. Again.
