Quit adding channels with ads only
I am getting really tired of having to Hide Channels of the stupid advertising channels that you are supplying. I don't need a channel to tell me about the latest Lexus, or Lincoln, or Dyson vacuum, and as a fromer Marine, I certainly do not need nor want the US Army channel. I remove them, and next thing I know, you've put it back on my Guide with some other ad station. I pay a pretty good price for your service, and I don't think I should be pestered with these stations. If you're going to add these stations, then give me a discount.
How can I get you to stop adding these ad channels? With 6 TV's, it makes it tedious to remove these stations all the time.

Revenue from the advertising channels is a means of keeping costs down for AT&T. As a result, this keeps subscription costs down.

And the posters main point goes, SWOOP, right over ones head.
He wants to know how to stop getting the ad channels. Don't care one bit about revenue streams.
That is like the guy who goes into a sales lot, looking for a work truck, and for whatever reason, the salesman only shows him SUV's.
Much more revenue stream proactices like that, and ATT won't have to worry about revenue, to to so many dis satified customers leaving.
But hey, it's their company. They have every right of running it streaght into the ground, if they want to!

So to answer the OPs question: "How can I get you to stop adding these ad channels?", you can't. They are there to bring in revenue. About the best you can do is hide them.
Thank you and drive through.

His concern was, he keeps adding the channels to the hide, and they get unhidden every time they "add" a new one. so he's asking how to prevent that so he don't have to keep having to re-re-re-enter those channels to hide.
Not a hard thing to grasp, really.
I don't have u-verse, so don't really have any dog in the fight, mostly morbid curiosity.
And once in a while, I love adding a little oil to the squeeky wheel.

I hide those dumb channels all the time and they don't re-appear.
I looked....I've got cancer, atkins, lifelock, to name a few and they've never re-appeared with the addition of a new one. Wonder what he's doing wrong.

That is actually a very pertinant question. Glad you asked it. And now, I too wonder, what is it he is doing, that it does not stay done. (Or NOT doing. as the case may be.)

All of those "channels" have a shelf life. They aren't there for all eternity. They come and go, are switched and changed. Lincoln Continental had an ad but it is no longer there. Arkansas had a channel for a bit, but it too, is gone.
I can see if, for example, the Lifelock ad is on 1088, the contract runs out and it's removed and then it comes back to channel 1087, then, yes, it will "re-appear" but only because it's in a NEW location.
But if Lifelock remains on channel 1088 and you HIDE channel 1088, it should not re-appear.

This is correct. I don't want to see these channels. My phylosophy is... if I want it, I already have it. If I don't have it, then I don't want it. So, I am not buying anything they are advertising.

What I am seeing is that I hide for instance Channel 98. It currently has let's say... the Lincoln Mercury ad. I hide it. Then a few months down the road, Channel 98 is back with some other ad.
It seems I have to do this as well with all the NBA PPV channels each year. Ugh!!

Yes..every time a new channel is added, you have to block it. Fortunately, if you have a newer box (anything except a Motorola VIP 12xx) model, it only takes a couple seconds. Be sure to hit "save" and "ok" and other similar options. If you do have a 1200, you should be able to swap that out for another STB for no fee...you may have to beg and plead, but since those 1200s are being junked as old equipment, if you're insistent but nice, they should be ok with waiving the swap fee or giving credit on next bill. If you have the 1216 or 1225, you will lose recordings if you swap those out.
One thing that AT&T doesn't tell you is that if you want to block channel 1088 really quick, you can actually use the number buttons to press in 1088 and go straight there on the "block these channels" list instead of pressing "page down" for a really long time.

It used to be you'd see a new channel appear every week or so. Recently, I have had to hide up to 12 channels, several times in one week. That's really annoying!
If ATTwere customer concerned, they would come up with at least a more convenient way to hide the channels. For example, add an option under "Hide Channels" such as "Remove Newly Added Channels." As a person scrolled through the channels to pick which ones to eliminate, make the viewer wait 5 seconds before hiding the channel with a banner of "Thanks for viewing this advertising which keeps your subscrption at a lower cost." I understand the revenue from these ads keeping the cost of doing business down.
If the number keeps up and I have to manually go through to hide because there are so many, I'll have to check with people I know with a competitor service if they have the same deal. It's that annoying to make me think of switching.

So in a round about way there telling you if you don't like it leave. But they can't so I will interpret it for you. I hate them too, but nothing you say or do will stop it, Just like all the ESPN shannals that keep on popping up. I think its B*S*, but can't do a thing about it and yes I spend alot to. These guys on here can't do nothing about it there just people who post to forums and get paid by att to answer question they can't do nothing about. This post will prob get removed because its not productive. Or better yet soemthing they don't want to hear.

I do not waste my time hiding any channels. If you do not like the channels do not watch them. You do not have to hide them. Create a favorites list with the channels you watch. Thanks for your service. Is the freedom in this country what you fought for?
