U-Verse TV software update February 2025

On Feb 21st, about 12:47am ET, my DVR-connected TV said it had a software update available and asked if I wanted to reset the DVR now or in three hours.

I saw an "update available" screen which...the last update was years and years ago.

It went through a regular reboot and the TV came back on about three minutes later.

I'm now running:

TV2 client version 3.9.37638.405 (RELEASE)

Platform OS/Version: WinCE/5.0.1400

Bootstrap ROM version: 2.7701

As far as I can tell, nothing changed.

I've seen a "you need to reboot for an update" screen before following some minor network disruption, even when no update actually happened.  I don't think I've seen any further indication of an actual update.

There is a slight change and it's not a good one.

Say you have a list of upcoming airings of a particular show. There used to be a red dot at episodes scheduled to record.

I no longer see that red dot.

I spy another change.

In the list of recorded shows, gone is the italicized words for shows you've watched. Those show titles are now gray, but when the show is selected, it's the same white color.

This is another unwelcome change.

There we many enhancements but more for performance enhancements.  The biggest impact is to improve performant of the wireless STBs.

there should have been no change to the UI and the Recordings indicator.  Can you advise what device that's lacking the red dot indicator?  Is it single or series?  I have no issues seeing them on any device.

I noticed the same behavior (no italics on partially viewed titles) on my DVR right before it took a dirt nap.  I haven't paid attention since it was replaced.

A situation where red dots didn't appear for us was when she scheduled a series record for shows that were on, or would be on within the hour, the episodes did not get a red dot, as I would have expected; this was on the new DVR.  We manually set the recording successfully.  In the past when such a thing happened, the attempt at the manual setting would "bounce off" because the series recording really did work, it just didn't put up the dot.

@UVTVguru Thanks for giving the thread attention.

I don't use series records.

Say I want to record all HD episodes of The Daily Show. I can look for all episodes and end up with this:

One of those is HD and the other is SD. There used to be a red dot on the right side of the HD airings (in my case) indicating the show was scheduled to record.

Ever since the update, those red dots no longer exist.

There's a few shows when I'll delete specific instances off the DVR if that same episode is scheduled to re-air. Obviously, those red dots come in handy, as I can normally scroll down the list and realize "oh, there's that episode" then schedule it and delete the episode off the DVR.

Issue #2

Whereas "The Great North" has been accessed, it used to be in italics. If the show was properly stopped, I think it used to go back to normal text. Now, it's normal text, but faded out...which might be an issue for some people with sight difficulties.

And what would be GREAT...the ability to HIDE the SD shows from that first list. Personally, I have no desire to see them and just waste time scrolling down, although I recognize some people might want to see them.

"Hide SD shows if HD channel exists" would make a good feature.

@UVTVguru Is there an update regarding getting the red dots back?

Or the italicized (partially watched) titles.  Those are very useful.

Noticed last night that, while they were no longer italicized, they were in a regular weight, while unviewed titles were in bold.

Good morning, apologies for the delay, I have been OOO.

Apologies if this is a point of frustration.  There were minor changes to the UI and no plans to change it back for the "already watched" italics vs STD.  Team is looking into the recording buttons not showing as we still aren't able to replicate it.  I have the team doing more testing.

Is there a reason you use manual recordings or single vs using the series?

For me, maybe I don't want to record *all* episodes, especially given some primetime shows are repeats. There's also some shows that air multiple times throughout the day, but only one of those is a new episode. Obviously, I only need to record the first airing. (Think a show like Around The Horn or Pardon The Interruption.)

It's easier to see everything in a single list, especially with only four tuners across two TVs. I can see that I may only have one open tuner from 6:30-7pm and then proceed with caution.

There's also times when shows may change times (including those that follow live events) and I don't necessarily trust the DVR to be smart enough when I can record that show as it's scheduled to air and add extra time on.

But if we can get the red dots back in the "all episodes scheduled to air" list (as shown in the photo), that would be AWESOME.

@UVTVguru -- Is there an update? I'm really missing those red dots. I could supply further info, but I'm not sure how that'd help or what I'd need to supply.

Unfortunately, there is no immediate fix.  We are still working to replicate based on your experience and usage pattern.  As soon as I have confirmed the issue and timing of an update, I will let you know.

There's also times when shows may change times (including those that follow live events) and I don't necessarily trust the DVR to be smart enough when I can record that show as it's scheduled to air and add extra time on.  - You can add extra time to shows that traditionally follow sporting events, especially Sunday football.

But if we can get the red dots back in the "all episodes scheduled to air" list (as shown in the photo), that would be AWESOME.  - We continue to work it...
