UverseTV STB update without notice & drastic changes to On Screen TV Guide!
During last night's (10:25pm Pacific time Oct 19th) set top box (STB) firmware update, the Channel Short Cuts function for the on screen tv guide was eliminated. That means you can NO LONGER view tv channels by category to see what's on at any given time, e.g. SPORTS, NEWS, VARIETY, MOVIES, LOCAL, GOVT, etc
There were many ON SCREEN GUIDE CHANGES for which Uverse TV customers didn't receive any notification of + TV service was interrupted for 5 to 7 minutes during tv prime time watching. Yet customers receive plenty of promotional Uverse emails, but no notification of a very serious change to the STB functionality?
Also, my Favorite channels were deleted & I had to manually restore them.
This comes <2 weeks after a Uverse Residential GW firmware update deleted the 2 WiFi networks I had configured. A tech had to be dispatched to recreate them as no one at the 800 # or any tech managers were aware of the bug in the Res GW update that deleted configured WiFi channels and reset the WiFi AP/Router in the GW to the single default WiFi network & password.

Our opinions must be heard!!! DO NOT ACCEPT this horrible change by AT&T. Everyone has to call in and complain about it. I spoke to a representative and he agreed with me that the changes made are terrible and supposedly sent my opinions to the development team. If we accept this and not let our complaints be heard then they will do nothing. If enough people complain then they will consider updating the guide again. We all pay hard earned money and AT&T is going to make their service worse for us! No way!

Here in Central Ohio we received our new update sometime yesterday (Friday Oct 21). I pretty much like the new layout but only have one issue so far.
What is up with the sound?? I used to have my tv volume around 8-10 range for normal viewing. With this update, last night it required my tv to be at about 23-25 range to hear. Thought it was just the channel I was viewing at the time (ESPN), but it was the same on all channels.
I hope this bug gets worked out, or I guess I will just need to keep on pushing the volume "up" button, lol.

Same here in the Chicago area so you are not alone. I have to turn the volume up 2.5 times higher now. The issue exists via component and HDMI cable inputs from my DVR. The volume levels from the outside antenna and Roku streaming video box (HDMI) inputs are fine.

Be advised that some of us, if not all, updated customers are experiencing a very low volume level output from the DVR after the update. Nothing is wrong with your TV so don't worry about that being the issue. Hopefully AT&T figures out a fix for this soon.

Mine is the same. It's just in the DVR. My BluRay is fine. Crazy....

I hate the new format. Things that I used all the time, liked scheduled, are buried many clicks away. However, I could get used to it and use my app more often, if need be. The biggest problem is that this new version is full of bugs. Examples: 1) if you want to record a number of back to back shows it freezes after you record 1 or 2 shows. If you need to go to the next screen to record it freezes. You need to exit out and start over. 2) if you take some action under one of the recording sub menus (e.g. Update a series) it auto jumps to first channel in favorites.

All of a sudden when searching for programs, there is a new way to do it and if you press Menu, it doesn't give you the Category search any longer. Does anyone know how to get to that now?

Just got the new update here in California. Here's two things that really bug me after some initial exploring of what's changed.
1. Getting info in the favorites grid is now highly inconvenient.
If you push the info button on a favorites entry to read its full description and then push it again to return to the grid the favorites grid "homes" itself back to the lowest channel number you have in your favorites. In other words you loose position of where you were in the grid before pushing the favorites button.
Note, this does not happen when using the guide. But I never use the guide. The guide is the place I use to store my full channel lineup and to capture useless channels U-verse often adds.
Since this lost positioning problem only happens in the favorites and not the guide I have to assume it's a bug. Because if it's a "feature" what possible reasoning could there be to justify this?
2. Scheduled menu is now "buried deep" in the recordings section.
Usually I review my schedule each night to make sure what I think is scheduled that night is actually scheduled (schedules can change so I double check). Before getting to the scheduled list wasn't that inconvenient. Now it's buried down in the recordings section requiring about 8 button pushes to get to it.
Overall I dislike the new format. Yeah, I suppose we will have to get used to it because we have no choice. But I can't help wondering, does AT&T ever test this stuff? Do they have focus groups to see if various changes are warranted and useful? Or do they just have a someone learning to code in a back room somewhere making changes for change sake, not doing any testing, and shoving this stuff "out there" for us to test and give feedback?

I've spent three days and talked to 2 technicians and waited 4 hours for a scheduled call back (they never called) to find out the change was because of an update. No one had the answer! Because of the forum I've finally learned how. Why remove a Channel Shortcut button without telling customers? Why don't they send out this information before they change the format. Needless frustration and terrible customer service!

There are fewer options since the latest software update.
Don't mess with old people. The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.
