What happened to Music Choice?

I used to listen to Music Choice All the time on the tv.

And now when I go to the channel that I loved, I noticed Stingray. And then I'm thinking: "what's going on?"

Then, it tells me to press Ok to listen to stingray, but if I press Ok on the remote, do I have to pay for anything in order for me to listen to that station?

I basically want to check out stingray before I decide if I like that music or not and if I don't like the style that station plays, I'd appreciate if Music Choice came back.

Music Choice is Awesome and now it seems like I can't listen to music on the tv now.

So my questions are: Why did they change the music "brand" station? Do I have to pay anything after I press Ok on the remote in order to listen to stingray? And what happened to Music Choice--Why did they switch?

You're probably in the must have Elite Internet or higher to get the channels situation.  So you still have 531/1531 the Stingray app?  Could just use that if it's there. 😉

I listened to the Rock Music Choice channel 5113 which is 'current' rock music - nothing compared to what Stingray considers rock music.  "Stingray Music Channels" are awful and not worth the time trying to change from one genre to another.  Clicking the channel Up/Down button is not even an option.   What a complete waste of time.

AT&T could have kept Music Choice and offered Stingray as optional...see how many customers would jump at the chance to continue listening to Stingray when Music Choice is so much better. Better stations, better bands, better choices, recognizable music... what else do I need to say?   ...other than bring back Music Choice TV channels!

Supposedly, Stingray is Music Choice rebranded.  If that's the case, they need to do some work to make it more user-friendly.

I don't like having ANY switch made without notification.  I'm not very happy with Stingray so far, but am trying to figure it out.  BUT--there is one thing that AT&T could do to make this much more agreeable.

The channels I see include music of France, Italy, Poland, India, and in Farsi and Cantonese, among others.  If I want to select my type of music (happens to be classical), I have to go through several backflips.  Why are 17 of the 75 music channels featuring music that aren't even from my continent?  Who chose the default channels?  Isn't there some way that AT&T could make the default channels at least something like what we had on Music Choice?

AT&T, I don't know why you made the change, but as far as the music channel lineup is concerned, you blew it!

There are a number of remarks here about Stingray being a rebranded Musci Choice.  This is totally false.  These are two competing services.  Apparently AT&T dropped Music Choice at the end of their contract and replace it with Stingray.  I have read reports that AT&T is continuing to try and renegotate the Music Choice contract so I suppose, if this is true, that there is hope that Music Choice could still make acomeback.  I, for one, hope so as Stingray SUX!

One primary difference is that Stingray *REQUIRES* high speed interent service, so if you dont already have that, then Stingray wont work.

I don't have Elite Internet or the Stingray app. I just wanted to know what happened Music Choice. I just wanted to listen to music on my TV but now I can't do that since it got changed to Stingray.

For now, I can always either listen to Pandora or my music on my iTunes.

I totally Agree with You that I Don't like changes Without any Notification either. And I'm still concerned if I have to pay for Stingray. Also, what I've read from other AT&T users is that they're struggling on navigating Stingray stations where Music Choice was easier to navigate.

There was notification for 2 months on Uverse Channel Changes online and ads in USA Today. 😉

Music Choice was awesome!  I am another person that can't stand Stingray.  I listened to the "Easy Listening" channel which was just plain enjoyable music and did not include any singing which it often does now with the type of music that particular Easy Listening station plays.  I could even fall asleep at night to that station because it was relaxing but not anymore!  I use to be able to change the channel easily if I felt in the mood to listen to a different type of music which is a pain to do now because Stingray has to load.  When my toddler grandkids are over with Music Choice we could flip to different stations quickly so they could dance to different types of music which you can't do anymore because Stingray has to load.  I use to enjoy the little tid bits of information that Music Choice had on the screen about the artist or about the song.  I don't mind progress but c'mon guys, you made a big whopper of a mistake by getting Stingray. Bring back Music Choice and make your customers happy plus isnt Music Choice an American company?   Go USA!

@tray358 Then just go in on 1531 to let it load 1 time, then can just go back/forth on the genre slider and pick the channel from the list below that you want to hear.

Also if someone wants to wakeup to a certain channel, just set it up on the app, Exit to TV and when the app is entered again, that channel will come up automatically. 😉

Thank you for the help with Stingray and I have learned how to load it and pick whatever station I want to listen to.  I still have to say that Music Choice was just plain easier to use.  Now the other thing that really is bothering me is why when the music is playing on Stingray does the picture have to fade in and out?  That is really irritating.

If not mistaken you're referring to the anti-burn action it's performing to protect your TV screen from burn in.  The same image sitting in the same place for a long time. 😉

Hi Chris,

Thanks for letting me know that there was notification and I guess I could have been blinded by it. I watch tv a lot and I'm also on the computer a lot, but I had never seen anything about changes. Just as a suggestion, maybe a small "commercial" could be made for view on tv about changes happening with at&t rather than only online and in news ads. Again, that's a suggestion.

I also could have been blinded by it because I've been super busy.

I really do dislike the Stingray music channels.  The selection for the genre is questionable.  I would like the Music Choice back.  I too did not know of the change.  If it was in USA Today, I do not read that paper, nor do I look at Uverse changes, if it is not via snail mail or email.  I agree AT&T really goofed on this one.

Someone ris now calling Stingray, Stinkray and that name seems to fit, perfectly.

I have solved my problems with Stingray by not using it at all! Too cumbersome and I don't like the music choices. So now I use the radio on my iPad with a small speaker. Goodbye Uverse music!
