What happened to the Music Choice Channels?

Hello,

We awoke this morning to find out the our Music Choice Channels were replaced with Sting ray!  What's up with that?  Also, what the heck is U-verse Elite?  When I was check Sting Ray, it told me I need U-verse Elite to continue.  I hit okay and it downloaded the channels ... Is this adding cost to U-verse 300 programming?  If so, how do I change it?

Thank to all who answer!

I just got U-verse and have been checking out Stingray and I'm very disappointed with the limited selection of music and videos available. The selection is fairly generic and dull. Do they plan to expand this library? I have a very broad taste in music and I can only find a handful of videos I like, which is odd, and the music selection needs to be more defined with much, much...much more variety.

I sure hope AT&T will give attention to the great dissatisfaction of
customer to Stingray music and go back to Music Choice. Music Choice was a
quality service consistent with the AT&T image, while Stingray is a
cumbersome, low quality offering one would associate with third world
countries. There is better music directly available on the internet! I can
see why more young people are dropping AT&T U-verse (cable service) and
going with web-based programming.

@XturaX - some will say that Stingray (Stinkray?) has more variety.  There are a total of 75 channels plus about 50 more through the app via your remote (Go Interactive).  BUT the quality of the music is horrific.  I'm not sure about the video library as I haven;t watched them since the 1980's.  Isn't there a line in a song "♪and music still on MTV♪?"  There is "1985," lol.

Hear, hear @music4menow.  Amen to all that you wrote.  This isn't the first time that AT&T dropped Music Choice (the industry leader) in favor of "something better."  About 2008, they went with the Urge service which was worse in some ways than Stinkray but better in the good music that they played and not b-sides and poor cover songs.  I'm sure both switches were done to save some money.  A U-Verse manager told me how GREAT the Stinkray service was compared to MC.  He must have been drinking the Korporate Kool-aid.

I know it sucks but they will probably stick with this for a while as the contract goes for at least 3 years and their switching in the first place speaks volumes about where the customer stands in all of this.

Not generally true, Chris.  iHeart and most other streaming content owners strip out the local ads and insert generic iHeart ads in their place.  About 10-12 years ago, actors and voice over talent started filing suit over not being compensated for out of market ads that they were involved with.  SO, most of the local ads are gone but you may still hear the DJ doing promotions and such.  I would prefer local iHeart ads and news over Stinkray, any day.

Music Choice was way better, way faster and even had the little factoids as the song was playing. It was a heck of a lot easier to navigate.

I too will be leaving AT&T. Rates always go up and selection always seems to go down or the better channel conveniently moves to higher prices packages.

I have a lot of options regarding cable and Internet, it is no skin of my back to hanged once the contract is expired....and for that matter, shouldn't we be able to opt out of our contracts as AT&T has changed service while we are under contract?

Im sure that you did Chris, but for many of the main iHeart stations, they do strip them out. Small stations may opt to leave them in. One of the stations that I listen to, over the air, their "playlist" on THEIR website indicates an ad is playing but I hear music. So either iHeart itself or the station substituted a song for an ad block. They each do ytheir own thing. Listening to one of my faves (Country Legends 97.1), you hear different things, on different stream sources. On Country Legends 97.1 stream, from their website at the Top of the Hour, with their legal ID, they say "KTHTCleveland - Houston, Houston's home for the Legends." However on TuneIn radio, they say ""KTHTCleveland - Houston, a TuneIn radio station with Houston's home for the Legends." And iHeart changes it to "an iHeart radio station." Interesting.

I was very dissapointed when they replaced Music Choice with Stingray, the Easy Listening channel was terrible , nothing like Music Choice. But they have changed the music programming on the Easy Listening channel 5145, and now the music is just as good as Music Choice! They play Beautiful instrumentals now just like Music Choice used to, we are so happy with this change! And also Thank You AT&T for bringing back the Hallmark channel, we will be renewing our yearly contract with you all, we are very happy with the new changes, THANK YOU!!

@ABloom   Probably not renewing any contract unless its changing to DirecTV on a 2 year contract.  Then in the 2d yr, prices go up $30-40/mo.

Retentions not doing anything for current Uverse TV/Internet customers. Smiley Surprised

For years I have paid for Cable TV primarily to listen to SOUNDSCAPE.

Everyday for relaxation. Lo, and behold! Clicked to the channel and got Piano Forte music that seem bent on ripping up the piano keyboards. A continuous succession of these pieces that REALLY exacerbated the migraine headache that I was experiencing.

I phoned your office and left a message and my telephone number. I needed an explanation about what was going on!

HAVEN'T heard from you.

But, I'm glad to see that other people are making their views heard.
