Why are there no movie channels except for the paid for HBO, Cinemax?
I pay for Uverse Family and bundle with internet. I don't rent movies through Uverse, and my last bill was 116.00. I don't care to watch HBO, Cinemax..etc but I only want to watch the basics (like with all other cable tv providers) FXX movie channel, Bravo, SyFy, Oxygen, WE, TNT and so on. These are basic channels that have always come with any basic cable tv provider that I've ever used. I now have about 800 shopping / "watch the state of maine" / exercise..channels, but not one single basic movie channel. I have to pay extra for HBO/Cinemax to watch a movie. Bundled with Internet, I'm paying now 116.00 a month! Why do you block all basic movie channels and force us to pay extra to see a movie?? I'm about ready to plug in my own modem that I have (50.00 a month and lightening fast speed), plug in an HDMI cable and use Netflix, and get an antenna. This would save me a fortune! Make me an offer and I might stay w/AT&T, or, I just don't see the point in keeping it.

Then you're going to have to subscribe to something other than U-Family (U200/U300/U450).
Don't mess with old people. The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Movie channels that air commericals are found on U-Verse, just not on the U-Family package. FXX, USA, TNT and such are avaliable on U-200 or greater packages. If you want to watch these channels you'll have to upgrade. The U-Family package is just above bare bones and mainly has channels that would be okay for everyone in the family to watch 24/7.
Call up U-Verse (800-288-2020) and ask for retentions. See if they can help you out and make a deal that gets you those channels without hurting your wallet.

Keep in mind that if you go from U-Family to U-200, you could lose some channels. Please consult a channel lineup and see if there's any channels you could live without.
U-Family is, like said, channels that would be ok for the kids to watch 24/7. No racy/steamy/controversial content at any time.
U-200 is more along the lines of a "basic digital" tier. Some "fancy" stuff like ESPN News, ESPNU, etc.
U-300 is more "niche" channels like NBA TV, MLB TV, all Starz/Showtime/Encore channels.
U-450 is U-300 plus HD, sports, HBO and Cinemax.
PLEASE..consult the lineup before you call retentions to upgrade.

No service has "recent" movies on a channel where you don't have to pay extra. I assume that's what you mean by a "basic movie channel". U-200 has "movie channels" like Turner Classic Movies and FXM, but those movies aren't "recent" by any means. (I have U-200, and I don't think I have seen any channel air The Help yet - and that movie is 3 years old.)
Pretty much the entire point of HBO and Showtime is to charge you extra to watch newer films. (At least, that was the case before HBO discovered that they could make halfway-decent TV series as well.)
However, if you do decide to "pull the plug" and go with an antenna and Netflix, don't forget to get a DVR (one that doesn't need a cable connection) while you're at it.
