Gemini can't be setup to work with a wired internet connection
At times, while streaming a show with my Genie with a wireless connection the playback was faster than the Genie could load the buffer causing the playback to stop while the buffer filled. To prevent the buffer underrun I connected my Genie directly to the router and never had a buffering issue again. Fast forward to today, I tried to connect a Gemini receiver to my system and found it to be impossible with a wired internet connection. To connect a Gemini to a Genie they run a patch cable using the RJ43 ports on each device with the assumption that everyone connects their Genie to the internet wirelessly. I would have thought that the Gemini would have had a separate internet port but no luck there. I called Tech Support hoping that some adapter would exist but no luck there either so they're sending me a shipping label to return the Gemini. Not as show stopper as my Samsung Smart TV can handle my streaming services also by a direct connection to my router. Just thought I would share my experience.

I completely understand your concern, and I too believe that the idea of 'co-locating' a Genie receiver and a Gemini solely with an Ethernet connection between both for communication is a poor idea, especially when you say you are already utilizing the Ethernet port on the Genie HDDVR for a more reliable wired connection to the internet.
To solve this, DIRECTV themselves could sell a splitter which takes the Ethernet output of the Genie HDDVR and turns it into two outputs, one solely designated for communication (co-location) and another for Ethernet connectivity to a router for Internet access. However, I doubt this would happen as there is a lack of people who necessarily need such an accessory.
FYI, this is a public forum of other customers and not official DIRECTV. Although I wish I could help you solve your issue, it would be as cumbersome for you as it is me since I'm just a customer as well.
My only suggestion would be attempting to buy an Ethernet splitter from Amazon and testing to see if it would work for what you need it to do. If not, Amazon always has free returns.

Thanks for the reply. The splitter idea is what I had hoped Tech Support could provide or at least tell me if it would work or not work. The thing that keeps we wondering is whether I should just ditch the dish and the Genie and go with DirecTV via the internet and not be tied down via a contract. To me it's a bit strange that DirecTV satellite is losing subscribers but the deal with the Gemini was a minimum 1 year agreement and if I want to upgrade my Genie to the model that will do 4K it's a 2 year extension of my contract. It's the old concept that says if things are not broken why try and fix things as going 100% internet creates a single point of failure.
