Cancelling for a disabled account holder

My brother has dimentia and is therefore not able to cancel his subscription. The location of his service is being vacated, so I need to cancel all services. How can I do that? (Note: I will be returning the equipment to you Friday at a UPS store.)

@jazndaz1 the process is pretty straightforward and simple. First, though, I wish the best of luck to your brother as well as you.

You call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and tell them that you would like to cancel the account for your ill brother, who is the account holder. As this is a public forum and we are customers just like you, we wouldn't be able to make any changes for you.

The agent will likely ask for a few account details, such as the account number or phone number associated with the account, the account holder, billing or service address, four digit passcode associated with the account, perhaps the balance on the account, and for the account holder to be present. When they ask for the account holder to be present, this is when you would explain to them that you are the account holder's brother (and your name) as well as the reason why they cannot attend the call. Also, it helps as far as security concerns to use your brother's phone to call them. They should be able to get the account cancelled and whichever equipment is leased and/or recoverable (able to be returned to DIRECTV) will be required to be dropped off at a participating FedEx or UPS location. The satellite dish and cabling stays, your brother owns that and is in charge of it.

Bring all equipment to the participating FedEx or UPS location with your brother's account number. The shipping carrier will do the rest of the work as far as getting it packed up and shipped to DIRECTV.

Again, wish you the best of luck with your brother.

Most likely you will need to summit a power of attorney before DTV will allow you to do anything even if you are an authorized user.  UPS/FedEx bulk ship them back to DTV.
