771 Code Directv all signals are 0's
I have an issue that been resolved but wanted to post what happened and what worked. I had a bad older SL5S4NR4-01 LNB that is bad. The problem is that most of the blogs talk about alignment but in this case it was both. I would not have tried to fix it if it was not for the fact that the service call was to take a month for them to get out here. They are still coming out in two weeks from now. I had downloaded directv app to my firestick so we could watch all of what we see on the satellite dish while I was trying to fix system. The equipment needed was a cheap amazon SF-95DR meter and a power inserter 19v- 21V for directv. ( I had a printer ps that was 19.5v and used that with a piece of coax with a 1N4148 signal diode in series with coax center lead.) The hooked up the cheap meter and power inserter to the SL5S4NR4-01 LNB on Slim line Dish which is on my deck. The results were no signal. I moved the dish 20-25 degerees azimuth and signal was present but after that it would not change where ever I moved it. I hooked it up and still had nothing but 0's and now two error codes 771 and 775 after reset of HDR54-500 receiver. I then mounted and hooked up new SL3-SWM (SL3SPIG-WNC ) to tester with power inserter. The results were it needed 20 degrees of change in azimuth for signal that acts more like an indicator then a signal meter. If you moved it too far the signal would disappear. I then remove tester with power inserter and hooked it up to cable to HDR54-500 genie and we have directv! I went to the signal meters and it could use some fine tuning. I setup a small TV with HDR54-500 genie and tweaked both elevation and the azimuth for max signals. (93-100). I found there were not one but two issues bad LNB and somehow the alignment changed over 8 years but I do not get that. The newer SLS34NR5-01 (SL3SPIG-WNC ) LNB installed in setup without me having to change swm settings. Tell me what you think.

Update.
I had Directv (satellite tech) come to our house on the second of August and with $700.00 Directv meter he only had to adjust the azimuth a few turns on adjustment to get a best tuning of 92+ all stations. For my area the best way is tune at 103 .(Tuning best 103 CA and CB for a Max of above 86). You can do this with separate TV and your receiver. moved where you can see signal numbers are yell to someone when close. I was close but did not know you should get all of the signals above 86. With the exception of the ones that are 0 (two of them Directv issue with satellite in February).

Steven351,
With your know-how et al, you need to be part of the LEADERSHIP TEAM @ DirecTV. While looking on the website and seeing all the "Leaders" (Chief This or Chief That), it struck me that they do NOT have someone with enough brain cells to develop a satellite TV system that can operate/function while it's pouring down rain (which may/may not be in your immediate dish area). My service is constantly being 771 and it's raining 2 miles from the dish in my yard. I'm 80 yrs old and a 1964 college graduate do not have the knowledge (as you do) to tweak the elevation nor the azimuth.
I wished you lived next door...although that would not help my concerns. Nevertheless, you need a promotion to Chief Executive Officer...and real soon.
Sincerely, Gloria( Edited as per community guidelines) ( Edited as per community guidelines)

Most likely you dish needs to be aligned and since you will not call DTV, you maybe able to log into you account to set it up unless DTVhelp sends you a PM. Why not try their TTY number? All sat services will have rain fade in heavy rain.

Are dish aligment even though it is very good, the receiver in a very heavy thunderstorms, the signal level will change and it switches to internet for the bad storm then returns back to satellite.

The problem is mostly that the 771 code is two problems. One the mounting of dish should be on the ground with totally unobstructed view of the satellite. Ours is on are deck which is even better. Secondly the satellite can move small amounts of the years which may cause a slight alignment issue. They use small thrusters to keep it as perfect as it is. (but nothing is perfect) Our wood deck also expands and contracts a small amount with the summer and winter weather. Remember the satellite has to deal with the slight changes due to solar storms, the magnetosphere and other GEO stationary issues.
