Cabling

If a hotel wanted to use Direct TV for service in each of their rooms, could that be done over cat6 or would it need to be RG6?

I would imagine what service you wanted, I would imagine you want the business forum, not this one. On this one I suspect you will be told to get a client for each room (Genie Mini for example)

While it is theoretically possible for RG6 to be wired over cat6, this isn’t optimal for a matrix of receivers in a headend.

Genie clients are not utilized in business installations because clients are limited by the amount of tuners available from the Genie HD DVR (and genie DVRs aren’t allowed to be activated on commercial accounts either). The right receiver for commercial accounts is the new H26K, H44, or H25 standalone HD receiver.

I would suggest reaching out to an authorized third party retailer in your area for additional information regarding options available for a hotel. You can locate a local retailer by visiting https://dtv.biz/3Zww4PA.

You need a MDU installer and they use coax.

deutch: please read more carefully what I have written:

"I would imagine what service you wanted, I would imagine you want the business forum, not this one." - I am telling the OP to go to the business forum

On this one I suspect you will be told to get a client for each room (Genie Mini for example) - i am telling the OP that the advice here (wrong forum) would be to get a client for each room (meaning he would get a standard answer like he was at home).

The point was that he would not get a good answer to his business question on the non-business forum.

(Just like my question about turning off CEC, and they want a private chat... jeeze, just say it cannot be done on a Gemini)

I completely misread that, my bad. But, some of us ACEs are aware of how business accounts work so we can provide some basic insight before turning the OP to their respective DIRECTV dealer for further assistance

Yeah, I understand. It appears that the  "business forum" is a bit harder to "find".

Funny thing is that my company is owned by a cable TV component manufacturer, and we have all the new MoCA stuff, running 2.5 gigabit over RG6... that would indeed be the way to run in a hotel that has an existing cable infrastructure.
