Directv app Old DVR interfering with genie

Every time I log into the DIRECTV app on my iPad. It tries to access my old DVR before accessing my genie and prevents me from seeing any of the shows I have DVR on the Genie. And it won’t let me select the genie that has the shows DVR I want to watch. Isn’t there a way to bypass the old DVR within the app so I can watch the shows on the genie?  The only way I can get it to work is to unplug the old DVR, start the app, let all the genie DVR show load then start watching them. I’ve already requested assistance from DIRECTV helpline, but they’re of no use. Please help.

Hello there. We don't want you to miss any of your favorite shows. Please try to restore your DVR receiver to factory settings with the following steps: 
1. Press and hold the blue DIRECTV power button on the front of your receiver.
2. Release after 20 seconds.
