Sporadic HR24 Internet Access
My HR24 sporadically has internet access apparently delivered by the Genie.
I know this because I have purchased on demand movies and downloaded on demand shows on my HR24-200 and there is no Ethernet connection to it, nor do I have any of the external internet access devices made for the HR24.
What I don't understand is why it sometimes works and why much of the time it does not.
What steps do I have to take for it to access the internet through the genie or SWM like sometimes it decides to do on its own?
I have one genie, 5 minis for the genie and two HR24-200s.
All are visible on the whole home network and the playlist from all of them are merged into one playlist regardless which box is used to view the playlist.

The GENIE --Wireless or Direct Lan Connection to your Router/Switch --is the only internet connection required for your SYSTEM --Using your remote -See if the Genie has Updated it Software --menu -settings (check the date) if it has it's possible the Software plugin's have been corrupted -.Cause VOD not to work --if that's case -use your remote on the Genie --Menu-Search (TYPE) CLEARMYBOX Search --Search all.
NOTE -the receiver will reboot and it will take 24 to 48 hours for the FULL guide and VOD menu to return --you will not lose any recordings and any upcoming recordings will still record.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.
Before I try this though you should know that VOD does work on my Genie. (Interestingly though such recordings are not available to play on my HR24's even though they appear on the playlist. When trying to play, error says it can only be played from that STB. Also interestingly, those that record on my HR24s are available on any STB... That is if and when I can get them connected to the Internet.)
Based on what you suspected was the cause of my inability to connect to the Internet from my HR24s, (I.e. corrupt file for VOD) it would seem the Genie would also be effected, wouldn't it?
I appreciate the help.

That VOD error has been around a long time and it only effects VOD --download on one box and on the other boxes (playlist) you see a red circle next to it as it can only be vied on the box it was downloaded on.
That is caused by the Channel Owners as they own the server and control all the VOD content per channel
No need to to clearmybox it won't fix that issue

I'm not concerned with lack of accessibility of the genie VOD.
I'm trying to get my HR24 to connect to the Internet.
You said that the clearmybox might solve that because of a potential corrupt VOD update.
Still don't know whether that is the case.

Restarted HR24, that got me to at least having DNS connection but no Internet yet.
I'll do clearmybox on hr24, but your first post said to do it on Genie:
"Cause VOD not to work --if that's case -use your remote on the Genie --Menu-Search (TYPE) CLEARMYBOX Search --Search all."

DO you have anything (lan cable ) connected to the HR24? You should NOT --just asking --The HR24 gets it's internet address from your home network (ipaddress) --Gets over RG6 (MOCO) from the genie
If the genie had VOD it's fine --so NO need to clearmybox on that unit.
in Hr24 Does it show Internet (address) on the internet setup page?
Does it show connected -menu setting display?

I do not have any connections on the HR24 other than the coax for DTV.
I fixed it this morning after trying clearmybox on the HR24 last night that failed to correct the problem.
The HR24 was configuring the correct subnet mask but had an IP address, default gateway and DNS that was outside of my network's range.
So, in advanced set up, I manually assigned the IP, default gateway, and DNS ip addresses and now it is working.
Since automatic config isn't working, I'll probably have to do this every time there is a power outage or I need to reset the box but at least now I know what I need to do to fix it.
For others having this problem, check the Genie ip, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS addresses, assign an ip in the routers working range and duplicate the other ip addresses (subnet, DNS,gateway) from the working Genie to your HR24.
