use LG Magic Remote instead of Directv remote

We recently purchased a new LG OLED 77" TV.  We can't find a way to use only the LG Magic Remote and not have to use both that one and the Directv remote for certain functions.  I read  on a blog that you need to have the newest Directv equipment for this to work.  Anyone else having this issue?

Most TV remotes don't have the codes for DTV receivers that is why you program the DTV remote to the TV.  DTV uses the same codes for all receivers.

if you have a Hr24 -H24-HR-44-HR54-HS17 --Then you have the Latest D*TV equipment --I have a LG-4K Tv connected to a H24 and I use a RC66X White remote -It turns the TV on and I can use the remote to change the TV inputs --I use it the D* remote to Change channels and set recordings to other DVRS in my system.

I use the LG remote if I should ever want to use the Trash Apps of there web OS --Which (Edited per community guidelines) so I never need to use the LG TV Remote

Well spent a lot of time yesterday trying to get my new LG OLED tv to work with my magic remote, I'm connected to DirecTV. ON-off and volume is all. Spoke with LG person 1/2 way around the world, no help. Spoke to DirecTV person in Louisiana, said it will never happen. If I had an option to change provider I would, only option is full streaming, I feel that is a poor option for a channel surfer. I've read the comments but I've had no success. My DTV box is a HR54-500 and have a RC73 for it. Help!

I have the same issue.  Would like to use my LG Magic Remote to control my Genie HR 54-500.  If anyone knows how to set up the Magic Remote for the Genie I certainly would appreciate knowing what steps to take to set it up.

Most likely you need to contact LG to find out if their magic remote has the codes needed to control a DTV receiver.

I am pretty sure the LG magic remote does not have the directv codes. And LG seems to have no intent to add them, since none of the LG remotes have ever had the directv codes. Complain to LG.

Not just LG, TV makers don't need to add third party codes to their remotes so don't.

My lg oled c1 would do a decent job out of the box.  After a code upgrade it is broken.  It was a surprise and very nice out of the box.  The directv universal remote is crap.  Lg should fix the tv code as that was super slick.

Interesting....  I switched hdmi cables to a new 4k cable just purchased.  The TV 'rediscovered ' the directv box and I went through the configuration menu again.  Now the lg remote can control the satellite box again.  It's not a complete replacement but it covers the basics.
