Cancel direct tv

I was lied to by direct tv agent to signup for stream services and now want to cancel but can’t get a live person to cancel and am getting extremely frustrated. I guess this is how att keeps people using there overpriced products. The messages I get when I call is to dial 611 but since I do t have att wireless it connects me to my wireless provider who can’t do anything to cancel all I want to do is cancel directtv. I have called directtv, att, and every phone number I can find and all tell me to call 611 never getting me a live person

I had Directv stream and was lied to by the sales guy that came to my house and signed me up. So wrong and deceptive! I would be really curious as to how many people have been lied to? When I called to complain and tell them what happened (which I documented;  had time, date and the guys phone number and what he said) their response was “there is nothing we can do.” I just bought myself out of the contract for 178.00. This company won’t last with these practices  SO SHADY! Good luck!  I hope you get through to someone. Be aware, if you do - they will ask you to repeat your name , your address and other questions before they give you the answer to your questions just to harass you!
Note: My question was where do I return the Box? They told me I own it and I keep it! Very skeptical this is the right answer.

@rmcguffee @kjac What was the lie? By the way, Directv doesn't have any door to door sale people. Those are 3rd party company sales people.

I called 800-531-5000 to cancel mine.  I was offered incentives to stay but due to OAN non-renewal of contract, I decided I no longer needed their service and have set up others.  They will send you an email after the last day of your billing cycle (mine came today) with instructions to bring your equipment to a FedEx or UPS store to be packaged up and returned.  Be advised they will not prorate if you cancel in advance of your billing date (I didn't care, my box has been powered off for 2+ weeks waiting for that email).  Here is a link with cancellation info: https://www.att.com/support/article/my-account/KM1442309

Also be advised if you haven't fulfilled your 2-year contract, they will bill you $20/month until it's over.  I just fulfilled mine by 15 days when I cancelled; I had cancelled my service and started a new contract in March 2020, had a better package and newer DVR until they took LMN off my package 5 months later.   Dropped from Choice to Entertainment, promos expired, price kept going up and I'd been disgusted for a while but old habits die hard.  Since I knew about the non-renewal of OAN contract for 3 months now, I had time to research other options.  While I didn't have their streaming service, I would venture a guess the return process is the same but the agent will go over everything with you.  They were very pleasant when I called.  They even tried to get me onto the streaming service where I could have subscribed to Klowdtv to get OAN but since I already had it on my firestick, I declined the offer.  I realize not everyone wants to quit for this reason but whatever reason you have, it shouldn't be that hard to cancel your service and 10:1 they will want the equipment back, unless it's an older box/dvr that they no longer use.  My technician took my old box back 2 years ago when I got the Genie.  I actually liked the old DVR better and never used the new remote; I liked the old one better and was used to it.

@SuzeP1245 Why are you posting about Dtv Satellite in the Dtv Stream forum?

She was commenting on her experience with Dtv Satellite. Not stream.

Do you have proof thousands have canceled Dtv stream and satellite b/c of OAN? I know how the MAGA crowd likes to claim things without any proof or facts.

Please, let's not turn this into another OANN discussion. There are plenty of those in the Community Lounge. This person's issue has nothing to do with OANN.

Well, the OP never specified what the actual issue was. OP just claimed they were lied to. I asked for specifics and the crazy MAGA crowd started chiming in.

Agreed. No need to fan the flames, though.

I was not the one who started it. And I'm not going to sit back while people post lies and bs about the service. But, I guess, that's not fanning the flame.

Direct TV has been a big disappointment for us as well.  If you kept a copy of your emailed contract, the cancellation information should be stated there. I just looked over our's and saw a phone number to call.  We have about 12 months left and it will be worth it to pay the cancellation charges.  What frustrates us is not being able to use our other streaming services and smart apps on our TV with Direct TV set up.  Also, it is impossible to watch the local channels!

@rmcguffee

Call 800-531-5000 The chat is useless. all they will do is tell you to call

I am an EX-DirecTV and AT&T customer. I dropped DTV because of two issues. 1. The nonrenewal of OANN and the extremes in WOKE programing. 2. The cost almost doubled for service.

Oh relax @Ludwick577  I was just chiming in to provide OP with instructions on how to cancel service.  Didn't realize I had stumbled into streaming vs. satellite and why are you so triggered because I mentioned my reason for cancelling?

@SuzeP1245  I personally don’t think the streaming vs satellite remark by a certain individual who dislikes OAN and Maga was relevant to this discussion.  It’s all one in the same… just a different way to get the same channels to ones television.
