Charge for unnecessary equipment

I switched to Directv Stream last year and was told I was required to rent equipment to use the service. When I said I would just use the Roku, as was also suggested, I was told that it was still necessary to rent the equipment. I called back a few months later and again asked why I was paying for equipment that I don't need and was told I only have a few months of payments left and I can keep the equipment. Has anyone else had this experience?

Hi, @pcboyd1. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're sorry for the confusion as our DIRECTV STREAM devices used to be offered via installment, but we recently transitioned to a leasing program allowing our customers the flexibility for financing options. We'll send you a DM to review the acquisition type of your device.

DirecTV "Bring Your Own Device" Streaming service does NOT require leasing any DirecTV boxes.
