Grandfathered Go Big discount now only $20 instead of the promised $25???

I've been with DTV stream since the very beginning when it was AT&T.  My Go Big package initially cost $35/month and it was my
understanding that as long as I kept my package I would always receive a $25/month discount vs the same or comparable package rate offered to new customers.  With the latest price increases this year, my base package will now cost $90/month, a $10/month increase.  The current comparable package offered to new customers is the Ultimate package at $110/month, an only $5/month increase.  So now my promised $25/month discount has become only a $20/month discount.  Go Big and Ultimate appear to have basically the same channels except Ultimate also has Encore movie channels.  Confused as to why Go Big increased $10 while Ultimate increased only $5 considering virtually the same channel lineup.

Has anyone on the grandfathered plans here had success getting DTV to honor their agreement and provide the full $25/month discount?  If so, what department did you call, did you need to ask for a manager, and what exactly did you say?

I generally like the service, but it's gotten quite expensive in a matter of only a few years without adding any new channels that we
watch, or at least watch often.  They just gave me an extra third stream, something we'll never use.

Hello there. DIRECTV periodically adjusts package pricing, including DIRECTV STREAM, as programming costs continue to increase. DIRECTV is firmly committed to giving its customers the best value and content. Please, PN us to talk about more options for you.

You have to call At&t  and ask for the customer loyalty department.  They might make you go through you whole complaint put keep demanding the customer loyalty department.  They will reduce you rate on tv, Internet and phone. -  this willhelp.  Have to do it every year!

You (Edited per community guidelines)!   I was only trying to help customers. Was not promising anything!.    So much for customer service!  With people like you AT&T might lose all their customers.  Keep up the bad work!

Personally, I see nothing wrong with calling every year to get a discount, especially since rate increases happen almost every year.  I haven't been doing that but see nothing wrong with it.

I agree that once it becomes too expensive for one's budget, it's time to look at other options.

I don't like the answer from DTVhelp as it doesn't explain why 2 packages with nearly identical channels, and therefore identical content, go up in price at different rates, Ultimate up by $5 while Go Big went up by $10.  Heck, the Ultimate has all the channels Go Big has plus Encore movie channels.  If anything, the Ultimate should have increased by more than Go Big.

Bottomline is I'm now getting a $20 grandfathered discount instead of $25.  I'll have to call them.

What the OP was posting about was not that sort of promo.  Those of us that signed up for DirecTV Now at the very beginning were indeed promised a perpetual discount (not a perpetual price, but discount relative to the "list price" for that package).  And they do appear to have reduced the discount, seemingly by playing games with the package "list price".  Since the Go Big packet is no longer offered, only grandfathered users still have it - so I guess they can assign any "list price" to it they want.  That isn't playing nice with long term subscribers, especially since they lock us out of (or charge us extra for) a number of things that other subscribers get.

I don't remember "same or comparable" - what I recall they said originally was that they wouldn't raise the price on those with the discount faster than they raised prices on those without.   The problem is that they could argue (and apparently do) that this was on the same package, and as you note Go Big and Ultimate are close but not the same.  Go Big is the same as a package they had in the "new" set but have since dropped (Ultimate without STARZ Encore) while Ultimate is equivalent (I think) to the old Gotta Have It.  We (grandfathered subscribers) could argue that they are just gaming the system, which to an extent they are.  They could probably argue back that when DirecTV Now went away (really just got renamed, but) that they could have flushed us all but didn't.  I think they would like us to all go away (ideally resubscribe with current plans, but at least not keep our current plans) but aren't forcing that.  However, they aren't going out of their way to give us perks - while (as you note) they gave us the 3rd stream, they don't offer us the option to pay for more, they don't give us the unlimited DVR (though they finally let us pay to get it), they don't let us buy Ospreys, the don't give us access to PPV.  So I don't think they'll go out of their way to make the discount any better than they have to.  That said, if you get to DirecTV's equivalent to Loyalty (not AT&T's, since DTV isn't part of AT&T anymore) and get some satisfaction, please come back here and let us know.

My grandfathered Go Big Package just increased $25 this month, and that is after an increase in January for a total of $35 within 4 months. This is also with the top unlimited AT&T wireless package. We began at $35 month when almost no one wanted to  give ATT a chance. This is now worth moving to another wireless carrier and streaming service. We can easily afford to stay, the kiddos like the options, but they'll get used to whatever we do. Goodbye AT&T and DirecTV Stream!!

Well, it isn’t AT&T - DirecTV is a separate company again, and while I’m sure AT&T has influence as the major stockholder, I’m also sure they don’t get involved in detailed pricing decisions.  I saw the $10 increase (as I assume everyone did) but I didn’t see an additional increase (though my discount seems to be $15 these days, not $25, which I will ask them about). Did you make any changes to your subscription?  There was also a phone plan related discount which couldn’t stack with the DTV Now “founding” discount - if you made a recent change to your phone plan, perhaps that confused their seemingly fragile account system. If you’re otherwise happy with the service, I’d certainly contact them (at the Loyalty level) to see if they can fix it before leaving.

Well, I just gave up my grandfathered Go Big plan partly because of the price increases lately. As an initial subscriber since 2017, my ongoing $25 discount still made it not worthwhile for me anymore. But what did it is channel content has really gone downhill with lots of reality shows, shopping channels, ghosts/aliens, music videos, and sports networks of little interest. And the added bonus of tons of commercials. 105 channels may sound impressive, but to me with this content not so much.
