Are DTV Stream ("Osprey") boxes permanently account-locked?
I'm looking to try out DTV Stream, and I want it to be "TV-like," meaning I want channel numbers for quicker changes. I've also heard of some issues with the AppleTV version of the app (navigation being "twitchy"), and I don't currently own any Rokus, so the DTV Stream / Osprey boxes will be the lowest friction option for me, at first.
I'm concerned with the problems I've seen reported about surround sound (I have a Denon receiver and 5.1 in one room, and a Denon with 7.1 in another), and I'm willing to try Roku or AppleTV if the surround is a big enough issue... but was going to start with Osprey boxes.
I have parents nearing 70 that are fed up with Spectrum and their only other viable option is DTV Stream (due to regional sports networks). If I end up deciding I don't like the Osprey boxes, is it easy / possible to "un-pair" them from my own account, and then just set them up for my parents (on their own separate DTV Stream account)? Or are the boxes I order somehow "stuck" to my account without some sort of DirecTV intervention? I've seen reports of people buying used ones off of eBay that are somehow still attached to other customer accounts, hence my confusion here.

@bradenmcg as long as your DIRECTV STREAM box is ‘paid-off’ (being that you paid $5 per month for 12 months) then you should be fine to give it to your parents now that you own the box. However, if you are currently leasing the box or must contain paying for it, you are unable to give it to your parents for their DIRECTV STREAM.

That makes sense, I was actually planning on buying at least two of the "certified refurbished" DTV Stream boxes and paying up front for them (at $50/ea, they're actually price-competitive with most of the better Rokus). I have 3 TVs, but already have an AppleTV and could possibly use that (was going to compare and contrast). I may be able to live without channel numbers, but I don't think my parents will... and if I can just sell/gift my Osprey boxes to them, that makes it easier for them to try out DTV Stream, too (don't have to wait for boxes to ship).

Yes, you can give/sell your boxes, and when you are done just factory reset your box and then restart and allow it to continue to set up to make sure that it goes to the sign-in part of your box set-up and that it does not automatically sign back into your account because they do that some times. Plus you were comparing the Roku's to the Stream Box I have both and I can tell you that I prefer the Directv's Stream Box to the Roku's because with the streaming box you can change the channels as you do with cable/sat tv by using the number keypad on the remote control but that is a function you can not do with the Roku. With the Roku, you have to scroll through the guide to find the channels that you want. Even though they have them numbered you can change the channel directly as there is no numbered keypad on the Roku remote.

@bradenmcg my apologies for the mistake. I mentioned before that it was $5 for 12 months, but it is actually $5 for 24 months to cover the $120 cost for the DIRECTV STREAM Osprey Box, sorry for the confusion.
