Bought an ospery box on ebay - old owner told me he no longer has access to account to disable auto sign-in, Any options?
Called early today to see why I couldn't sign into this box after doing a factory reset and the phone support told me I had to contact the old owner to get them to disable auto sign in on their account. I messaged the seller and told them this - and they said they no longer had access to that account. Is this box now dead for good or is there any way to gain control of it?

Look online for the process to perform a "factory reset" of the C71KW-400 Osprey box. A factory reset should wipe any previously saved data from the prior owner and allow you to initialize the box again with your account.

I agree with @abartonkc and wonder why DIRECTVhelp couldn't have just said that rather than going DM.

I've already done a factory reset as stated. They say the old owner has to login and disable auto sign-in. Been with chat for over an hour and am getting the same runaround. They claim they tried to contact him but couldn't then asked me to call the seller. I don't have his phone number as I bought it from ebay and I sure as (Edited per community guidelines) wouldn't ask him for it, especially since he already told me he couldn't access the account anymore. At this point this box is a brick - i provided proof of sale, the serial numbers and everything else I could to prove that I am now the owner but am being told there is nothing they can do since its still under the old owners name.
This box is now e-waste.

Yet another example of why it's not a good idea to buy used DirecTV boxes.

Contact eBay for a refund they have buyer protection for situations like this. Tell them product was not as advertised

He gave me a refund so its no big deal, its just making me weary of trying to save some cash instead of forking out $100 for a new one.
I just hate seeing this box being basically e-waste unless I can make use of the android TV side of it somehow.

Got to be careful of Ebay sellers. I was looking on there for a 2nd box and one of the sellers didn't even know the service is called Directv Stream. He thought it was still ATT Now. At least that guy gave you a refund. The problem is some sellers don't know they can't sell boxes that are still linked to accounts.
