Can’t get pass the checking updates in setup...

Setting up new box, can’t get passed the checking for updates part of setup. Gives error 80003-001 code and to try again later. Tried through WiFi, and Ethernet at 2 different locations, so it’s definitely not network related. Reset device multiple times and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Hook up an ethernet cable to the device.

Hard reset by pushing the red button for ~10 sec until you see the  Logo on the TV

Immediately soft reset (momentary red button push) 7 times in a row each time Logo appears on the TV

Device should come back up and do a “System Update” download and install (`20 min)

After the System Update is complete it will reboot and succeed with Checking for updates .. about 10 min

I could not get it wo work without direct ethernet hookup, but you can try

I bought ethernet cord yesterday, so that's what's hooked up currently. I'll give your instructions above a go again today (it's possible I didn't hit it 7x yesterday). Today when I hooked everything back up it automatically started the "Downloading Updates" without me touching anything so I sort of just let it do it's thing...thinking maybe today was a better connection

Did all that...it came up briefly that I    "have a problem with your hardware" "Call customer service" error code 5107...black screen with logo, then black screen without logo blinked several times...now on blue screen again Downloading Updates (all on it's own)...insert face slap here...

I bought mine off EBAY.  It is C71KW-400.  I specifically bought that model number.  It was $60 about 1/2 of what I paid for first box for living room TV.  The living room is a C71KW-400,  but has a later manufactured date on the bottom.  Humax (Korean) website shows a new box for 2021, however, I have not seen one.  I had an issue with the EBAY box getting stuck on updating and the error code.  I just followed Caesar 9965 instructions to do a recovery.  It took two attempts.  The first time I did 7 soft resets in a row without pausing for Logo to appear. I did another hard reset and did a soft reset AFTER each Logo screen appeared.  I did this for 7 times.  After the seventh, I waited a short while and the loading updates screen appeared.  Then another update screen appeared with the trivia questions.  Then a final checking for updates screen and the machine said that everything was updated.  Next it ask to pair your remote, then you sign in to your account.  Then there are Google screens and afterwards the DIRECTV STREAM app is loaded.

I checked the version in settings and it says 8.  The box I got updated to Android 10 earlier this month.  I hope to get the Android 10 update on the second box soon.

I decided to take a chance and buy one off of EBAY because I did not want to pay $120 again for a box that forces HDR on some 4K TVs like my LG OLED.  This is a bug that has been known for years and not fixed yet..  Since my bedroom TV is a1080p Plasma, this box will not output HDR to it.

Interesting. I bought one from ATT and it runs super fast. Then bough a C71KW-400 off eBay and it just crawls slow. It maybe the Android 10 difference. I wonder if there’s a way to force the android 10 update.

I just got it working.  I'm on cable 100mbs internet.  The Ebay box is upstairs on WiFi.  The ATT one is downstairs on ethernet.  I haven't noticed any slow issues with it.  When I first got the service, I used a third TV,  Samsung 4K,  that has the app built in.  It was kind of slow and I noticed buffering.  An ATT internet person recommended 50mps internet.  I was on Uverse bundle, and the 25mps was the top internet speed for my address from ATT.  So I switched my internet and phone to Comcast , but kept the DIRECTV STREAM service.

Hi, I have several boxes that I've bought over the last year from ebay and have had some work and some not even after plugging in ethernet, hard reset followed by 7 soft resets.  I currently have a c71kw-400 that is brand new still wrapped that I cannot get to work even after following all of the steps. 

After the hard reset and 7 soft resets it shows system update for only a few seconds then goes to a black screen with the ATT logo and says Connecting to the Network and just hangs here for hours on end.  Has anyone seen that?  I can soft reset to get out of that screen and connect and check for updates but still gives the 80003-001 error.

I have bought 4 of the C71KW-400's off ebay without issue.  I got two more yesterday and both got stuck "checking updates" and would fail with the 80003-001 code at the bottom.  I found this thread and followed the reset button pressing process and both are now working.  I think you do need to be hardwired on ethernet.  This reset allows the device to call home and download a fresh load.  It takes a little while and will restart a couple times and then show a pulsing AT&T logo for a while.  After that it will reset again and all the ATT logo/branding has been blown out and you'll see the DirecTV Steam branding.  Whoever figured this out, THANK YOU!!  :-)

I have gone through you set up instructions 4 times and it will not go beyond the the original error message "problem with checking for updates". I have tried both ethernet connection and internet connection. Withe ethernet I get unable to connect but i can connect to my fiber optics running at 230 mps. thanks for any help. Jim

In order to explore options to correct the situation, we went to ask you a couple of questions. Could you please confirm what device are you trying to set up? Also, did you confirm the device has the least software version available?
