Can't log into Gemini

I was talked in to getting a Gemini device from Directv customer service and after receiving the device and making sure is it installed correctly it won't sign in. I called customer service twice only to be told they have no idea when the issue will be fixed after they walked me through resetting the device. When I turn the Gemini on it gives me a barcode to scan with my phone to log in. After completing the steps I continue to get an error that says "We ran into an issue. Something went wrong on our end. Try again." I have been trying everyday for a week to log in and keep getting this error. I am able to log into my directv account online with my laptop and phone just fine. Its only the Gemini that does this.I have tried to log in manually as well and get the same issue. At this point I wish I had never ordered the device. Its just sitting on my tv unable to be used. Customer service is useless. Has anyone else had this same issue and been able to fix it?

Has the email you are using to sign in ever been associated with Directv satellite or any ATT product? If so--try changing the email used on your account.
