connecting the directv streaming box to a home theater audio-video stereo

How to I connect from a directv streaming box digital audio output plug to a pro logic 5 channel receiver?  What type of connecting adapter do I need to RCA red and white plugs?

Got it. You'll need an optical digital audio to RCA cable adapter, like this ....

You don't want to use the analog (red/white) RCA cables if you want Dolby Digital Surround audio. Does your "pro logic 5 channel receiver" have a coax or optical Digital Audio Input? That's what you want to use.

My receiver is a 1992 vintage so all have is the RCA cables.  I have tried a digital output to analog converter but it didn't work.  So I wonder if there is a digital converter. I have looked on Newegg.com for that but i haven't found the right words to use in the search window.

I used to have ATT Uverse and it worked perfectly.

I'm surprised your "pro logic 5 channel receiver" has no digital audio input. What brand/model number? How was your UVerse box connected?

It is a Kenwood receiver model KR-8040.

I connected RCA cables from the Uverse cable box to my receiver with RCA cables.

There must be some kind of adapter out there that will work for me.

I will be calling DirecTV customer support to see what they can tell me.

Sounds good, I will give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestions!
