I hope not. DirecTV needs to focus their engineering efforts on their own streaming device and the most popular devices (Roku, Fire, etc). Built-in TV Apps quickly fall behind in priority and frustrate their users. Witness the mess with the Samsung TV App.
That said, AFAIK the 2015 Sony Bravia runs Android TV, not something "proprietary". While Android TV is less standardized than the other platforms - and it is quite possible the TV in question runs an older version of Android TV - we out here have no idea why a DirecTV Stream (AT&T TV) app has never been released for Android TV. Obviously they have one (their own box runs Android TV, and they have a FireTV app with will run successfully on many Android TV devices if sideloaded). A guess is that there is some contractual reason they haven't released one - they had one years ago for a specific TV (so probably paid for by that company), but it was subsequently withdrawn. Perhaps that company (or its beneficiaries, since it appears the original company is no longer in business) retain rights preventing DirecTV from releasing an Android TV app - but that is just a guess.
Side loaded Direct Stream App on my 2015 Sony Bravia yesterday. Works like a charm. I moved the Direct Stream Box to the bedroom and moved the 4k Apple TV I had there to the Garage. The wife had reservations when we switched from Youtube TV. After seeing the functionality of DTV, she is onboard.
