Directv Stream DVR remote programming
When I am away from home and try to record a program using the app I am finding that oftentimes there is not an option to record. Am I missing something?
For example, I am out of town and realized I forgot to schedule a recording. I go to my guide, find the show, click on it, and nothing comes up to allow me to record this show.
Any recommendations?

When you are in the app go to guide then go to the program that you want to record and press on the show it should open another window that gives you information on that show and towards the bottom, it should say record episode you press where it says record episode then it should pop up that your show it set to record. Then you are all set.

If you're out of town and using a streaming device that has "location services", like a smartphone/tablet, then you won't be able to setup recordings on your local stations. That's because those devices stream the stations from your actual location, not your home location. What streaming device are you using?

I’m using my iPhone with the Directv stream app. Seems I should be able to record remotely. I was a Directv customer for years and was able to do this.

I would think you should still be able to set recordings for anything that is not considered a local channel. Because your locals would be different from your home location and would be based on the location that you are currently in you would not be able to record these channels because they would differ from your home network but all the other channels that are not locals should be the same though and should be able to be recorded.

It's only those local stations that you can't record when you're not at your home base. And, as I stated, that depends on your streaming device. For example, when we travel in our RV we generally watch on our Roku and we see our home location local stations. But our iOS devices show the local stations where we're camping. And those we cannot record.

Not being able to record local stations when away from home is actually a big deal as these are typically the major networks - ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX. Directv Stream really needs to figure out a way to make this right. When I had regular Directv there were times when I was out of town on business when my wife would contact me to record a show and I’d grab my iPhone and set the recording with the app. Apparently Directv Stream doesn’t allow this. Customers really need this flexibility!!

It's not the fault of DirecTV Stream, but the local affiliates that are preventing the recording and viewing when you are not in your home base. DirecTV Stream couldn't care less and would love for you to watch your content any time or anywhere.

The ability to record local stations in the area when I’m traveling is not what I’m looking for. I’d like to be able to my local stations if I’m out of town.

Do you also take a computer/laptop with you when you travel? You can try setting recordings on the website--or--use your phone's web browser go to stream.directv.com and do it there.

If you use a streaming device without "location services", like a Roku or PC, you should see your homebase locals. Devices like an iPhone/iPad will show the locals where you're located.
