DirecTV Stream

I have a client that is looking to purchase a full home upgrade and one of the things we discussed were using AppleTV's on all of our devices as a streamer. One of the things we discussed was the ability to use his existing DirecTV service through the AppleTV using DirecTV Stream. The client has DirecTV cable and we wanted to know if it's as simple as replacing the cable boxes with AppleTV and logging into DirecTV Stream? DirecTV is not very popular around my area so i haven't had this situation pop up yet.

DIRECTV and DIRECTV STREAM are two separate services. They are not similar in any way. I call streaming with DIRECTV satellite simply using your satellite credentials in the app. It’s not ‘DIRECTV STREAM’ as that is a different service.

To answer your question, you can’t keep your DIRECTV satellite subscription under Apple TV devices. You still need at LEAST (1) ONE box. Then, the rest can be Apple TV devices. As a note, the Directv satellite streaming app does NOT support all of the channels, only a majority.

It sounds like your best bet is cancelling DIRECTV satellite and signing up for DIRECTV STREAM. Then, you can use just Apple TV devices and stream everything without worrying about wires. Just ensure you have a good enough Internet connection in every room you want service.
