Directv Streaming Box with Hard Wired and WiFi Together

I'm setting up a Directv streaming box with a hard wired Ethernet connection. I have a wifi system that I would like to use as a backup if the hardwired connection goes down. If I setup wifi in the streaming box which connection takes priority when it see both? Is there a way to toggle wifi off and on?

Ethernet should take priority, unless you select the Wi-Fi. You can always unplug the Ethernet port or cable.

Are your ethernet and WiFi using the same internet gateway/router? If so, you'll lose your WiFi internet if your ethernet network goes down. So I'm not sure having a WiFi backup would actually help.

The hard-wired connection will always take priority over the wifi connection and you will have a better connection to your internet through the hard-wired ethernet cable.  The only way to toggle back and forth would be to unplug your wired connection then the wifi would then look for a signal.  But I would figure if your hard-wired connection went down so would your wifi as your wifi is based on your incoming internet connection.

Thanks for the responses. The wifi is totally separate from the hardwired system (i.e., separate gateway/router). So, if does not go down when the hardwired system is down. My question about toggling wasn't clear. I asked in case wifi took priority. So, someway within the streaming box to easily turn on/off wifi so it would select hard wired.

Again, thanks for the responses

A Hard wired ethernet cable, when plugged into the box, will always take priority over the wifi signal.

Hello @rickm99 thank you for bringing this to our attention.

And thanks to the community for giving out accurate and prompt response regarding the hard-wired Internet and Wi-Fi connection. About the option to turn the Wi-Fi on / off, please go to settings and then select network, from there just toggle Wi-Fi off and on.

Let us know how it goes.
