DTV Stream App on my Sony Bravia 950H TV?

I was ready to subscribe to Directv Stream today but I can't find a native app for our Sony Bravia 950H TVs. We don't want to have to use a separate box on our TVs (like a Shield or Roku or CCWGTV) as we run a ton of native apps on the TVs (e.g. Hulu, Netflix, Prime, etc.) and they run fine. If there's no native app then we'll just move on to something like Hulu Live.

Thanks.

Then you'll need to go elsewhere.  Your only options are select Samsung TVs and those with another compatible system built-in (e.g. Roku, FireTV, ChromecastTV).  The official list is here:

Wow. Why would they not have a native app for Sony Smart TVs?? I can't think of another major streaming service (or minor one) that doesn't have native apps for that huge market.

Well I suppose we will. We had Directv since 1995 and decided to move to streaming for our main live TV source and had hoped to stay with Directv, but DTV Stream is clearly not an option for us.

Good luck with your next adventures. Make sure you check out device compatibility of the next service before you subscribe.

In my opinion, DirecTV should not bother supporting native TV apps. The Samsung app is junk. TV manufacturers never keep up with the latest updates. Much better to go with a popular streaming device, like Roku, or DirecTV's own Stream box.

Agree 100%. And when the on-board apps become outdated and no longer supported then there goes that nice TV compared to a $50 external true streaming device.

Not sure why anyone relies on smart tv apps as their only access to streaming. No thanks!

We have a box with Roku Ultras, CCWGTVs, and Shield TV boxes. I'm a tech junkie. ;) And when we've compared the the speed and quality of the Sony Bravia apps on our 2020 950H TVs we see no difference, so we keep it simple and use the native apps. On our older TVs we saw an advantage to the "boxes" and thus we used them. I'm enough of a techie and picky enough I have my own light and color meters and software and calibrate my own TVs, plus we have a high end ATMOS sounds system and high end Bluray players attached. So it's not a matter of I am not sophisticated enough to see the advantages of separate boxes (in fact, it frustrates my wife that I purchase and try out every new box when it comes out! LOL!)

I like the Apps for simplicity....

Using 3rd Party equipment that is sometimes a refurbished outdated device is not my idea of advanced technology.

Ok, anyway, didn't come here to argue about boxes vs. native apps, just wanted to see if Directv Stream had a native app. Since every other streaming service does I just assumed I was missing something but the answer appears to be no, I have to use some kind of streaming box to use it. So we'll simply move on. If they ever offer a native streaming app we'll take a look again.

I assume that Directv would have the resources to make a native app at least as good as YTTV or Netflix or Prime or Hulu Live or even Fubo? Anyway, that's moving into speculation. I've got my answer - no native app available.
