The battery cover is removed by firmly pushing the cover out. Sometimes the battery cover can get stuck so you can wedge a flathead screwdriver in between the cover and the rest of the remote to see if that will help.
UPDATE: I was able to get the cover off and replace the batteries. That wasn't the problem! Turns out the TV plug had come loose. All better now! Thanks again!
